In June 2023, actor Adivi Sesh announced that he has signed a "love story," as his next film following G2. [3] In December 2023, Shruti Haasan joined the film, starring opposite Sesh. [4] The film is produced by Annapurna Studios head Supriya Yarlagadda. The film marks directorial debut of Shaneil Deo, who earlier worked as cinematographer in Sesh's earlier films, Kshanam (2016) and Goodachari (2018). [5] It is simultaneously shot in Telugu and Hindi languages. Both the language versions are "treated differently according to the cultural nuances of each language," as per the film's producers. [4] The film was titled Dacoit in December 2024. [6] It is mounted on a budget of ₹70 crore, the highest ever in Sesh's career. [1]
Haasan joined the film's production in June 2024. [7] In July 2024, Haasan shot action sequences in Hyderabad. [8] However, in December, Haasan walked out of the project, with reasons reported as scheduling conflicts and "uncomfortable work conditions." [9] Later, Sesh clarified saying that, "It just didn’t work out. Also too many things like working styles." [10] Haasan was replaced by Mrunal Thakur [11]
Sesh and Thakur were injured in July 2025 while shooting for the film. [12] The film's production was delayed as action sequences were postponed after Sesh's injury. [13] The film's shoot has completed in November 2025. [14]
Dacoit is scheduled to be released theatrically on 19 March 2026. [15] Initially scheduled to release on 25 December 2025, it was pushed back due to production delay. [13]
