It is about an elderly Maharashtrian couple living in Mumbai who come to terms with the loss of their only son. This was the screen debut of Anupam Kher. The film had music by Ajit Verman and lyrics by Vasant Dev. It was produced and distributed by Rajshri Productions. It was chosen as India's official entry for the 1985 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and was not nominated.
Chaahat (transl. Desire) is a 1996 Indian Hindi-language romantic thriller film directed by Mahesh Bhatt. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Pooja Bhatt, Naseeruddin Shah, Ramya Krishnan, and Anupam Kher. Shah Rukh Khan acquired the rights of this film from Mahesh Bhatt in October 2013 under the banner, Red Chillies Entertainment. The film was remade in Odia as Prem Rogi in 2009.

Gumrah is a 1993 Indian Hindi-language action crime drama film directed by Mahesh Bhatt and written jointly by Sujit Sen and Robin Bhatt. It stars Sridevi, Sanjay Dutt, Anupam Kher, and Rahul Roy. In the film, Roshni (Sridevi), an aspiring singer, is assisted by Rahul Malhotra (Roy) in flourishing her career and they fall in love. However, on a trip to Hong Kong, she is abandoned by him and later arrested by the police for supposed involvement in trafficking cocaine.

The film marks Mahesh Bhatt's return as a director after 20 years. The film's story takes place twenty-nine years after the events of its predecessor.
