Mukesh Bhatt (born 5 June 1952 [1] ) is an Indian film producer and actor who has produced several Bollywood films. He is the younger brother of Mahesh Bhatt, and also the co-owner of the production company Vishesh Films, set up in 1986.
Bhatt is the son of Nanabhai Bhatt (1915–1999), a Hindi film director and producer. His father was a Gujarati Brahmin and mother a Gujarati Muslim. [2] Nanabhai's brother, Balwant Bhatt (1909–1965) was also a Hindi film director. He is married to Nilima Bhatt. Bhatt has one daughter named Sakshi and a son Vishesh; [3] Vishesh Films was named after him. For 30 years Mukesh along with his brother Mahesh produced movies under the banner of Vishesh Films. However owing to differences between the brothers, Mukesh Bhatt took over Vishesh Films and in May 2021, it was publicly announced that Mahesh Bhatt was no more associated with the firm. [4] [5]
Bhatt's first film as producer was Jurm (1990) with Vinod Khanna,the film was very successful. [6] Then he collaborated with Gulshan Kumar to produce the love story, Aashiqui (1990), starring debutantes Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal. The film was directed by his brother Mahesh Bhatt. The films that followed Aashiqui were all big hits. These included Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991) and Sadak (1991) released under the banner of Vishesh Films. All of these films starred Pooja Bhatt along with prominent actors like Aamir Khan and Sanjay Dutt. [6]
Bhatt produced more films in the following years, such as, Sir (1993) starring Naseeruddin Shah, Naajayaz (1995), Criminal (1995), and Fareb (1996). The 1998 film Ghulam , was yet another success for the producer. [6] In 1999, Sangharsh starring Preity Zinta and Akshay Kumar was successful venture for the producer, while the horror films Raaz (2002), and its sequel Raaz – The Mystery Continues (2009), and its sequel Raaz 3 (2012), and its sequel Raaz Reboot (2016) both were received positively. In 2004, he introduced his nephew Emraan Hashmi on the big screen with the film Footpath , also starring Bipasha Basu. His recent ventures as producer include, Zeher (2005), Kalyug (2005), Gangster (2006), Woh Lamhe (2006), Awarapan (2007), and its sequel Awarapan 2 (2024) Jannat (2008) and its sequel Jannat 2 (2012) and its sequel Jannat 3 (2024), Tum Mile (2009) and Crook (2010). and Murder (2004). and its sequel Murder 2 (2011). and its sequel Murder 3 (2013). and its sequel Murder 4 (2024) [6]
He produced along with his brother Mahesh Bhatt Mr. X (2015) and Mr. I (2024) and Hamari Adhuri Kahani (2015) with Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan in leading roles. It is based on the love story of Bhatt's parents, Nanabhai Bhatt, Shirin Mohammad Ali and his stepmother.

Awarapan (transl. Vagrancy) is a 2007 Indian Hindi-language neo-noir action drama film directed by Mohit Suri and written by Shagufta Rafique, from a story by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Mukesh Bhatt. It stars Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, and Ashutosh Rana. In the film, gangster Shivam Pandit (Hashmi) is ordered by his boss Bharat Malik (Rana) to watch over Reema (Sharma), Malik's secret Pakistani mistress. It was flop at the time of its release but over the years the film has attained a cult status, primarily due to Hashmi's performance. An uncredited remake of the South Korean film A Bittersweet Life, Awarapan was theatrically released in India and worldwide on 29 June 2007. Despite receiving positive reviews from critics, it was a commercial failure, but eventually came to be regarded as one of Hashmi's best works. The film was praised for the cast performance, musical scores, songs, action sequences, plot and dialogues. But the film got less runtime due to excessive and brutal violence in the film.
Sadak is a 1991 Indian Hindi-language romantic action thriller film directed by Mahesh Bhatt. It stars Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt. The film is one of the highest-grossing movies of the year 1991. The film was inspired by the 1976 American film Taxi Driver. This film was remade in Tamil as Appu (2000). A sequel, Sadak 2, was released on 28 August 2020 on Disney+ Hotstar.
Jannat (transl. Heaven) is a 2008 Indian Hindi-language romantic crime film directed by Kunal Deshmukh, and produced by Mukesh Bhatt. The film stars Emraan Hashmi opposite Sonal Chauhan in lead roles. It released on 16 May 2008 and was a success worldwide, receiving positive response from critics, it is the first installment of Jannat film series.
Raaz: The Mystery Continues, shortened as RTMC, is 2009 Indian Hindi-language supernatural horror film directed by Mohit Suri and starring Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut. The film is the second installment in the Raaz series, but the story-line is not a direct sequel to the 2002 film Raaz. The film deals with issues of the ghosts which are allegedly prevalent in India and the world around us. The film attempts to challenge one's beliefs about paranormal phenomena.
