On May 8,2007,he lost the Democrat primary against Galligan;who went on to win the general election in November 2007. Rob Waiz was the youngest mayor elected in the city's modern history.

Brohm played college football for the Louisville Cardinals under coach Howard Schnellenberger from 1989 to 1993. He played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons from 1994 to 2000 and the XFL in 2001. Brohm served as the head football coach at Western Kentucky University from 2014 to 2016 and Purdue University from 2017 to 2022.

Corso served as the head football coach at the University of Louisville from 1969 to 1972,at Indiana University Bloomington from 1973 to 1982,and at Northern Illinois University in 1984,compiling a career college football coaching record of 73–85–6. He was the head coach for the Orlando Renegades of the United States Football League in 1985,tallying a mark of 5–13.

He served in various capacities for Appalachian State (1996–2022),including three years as defensive coordinator (2010–2012).
