The Texas Legislature is the state legislature of the US state of Texas. It is a bicameral body composed of a 31-member Senate and a 150-member House of Representatives. The state legislature meets at the Capitol in Austin. It is a powerful arm of the Texas government not only because of its power of the purse to control and direct the activities of state government and the strong constitutional connections between it and the Lieutenant Governor of Texas,but also due to Texas's plural executive.
The Texas House of Representatives is the lower house of the bicameral Texas Legislature. It consists of 150 members who are elected from single-member districts for two-year terms. As of the 2010 United States census,each member represents about 167,637 people. There are no term limits. The House meets at the State Capitol in Austin.

In 2013,a Texas Court of Appeals panel acquitted DeLay when it overturned his conviction. This decision was affirmed by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on October 1,2014. DeLay had three years from that date,i.e. until October 1,2017,to file any lawsuits for wrongful action.
James Robert Dunnam is an American state politician and prominent trial lawyer from Texas. He was a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives,representing the 57th District since his election in 1996 from January 14,1997,until January 11,2011. He is the grandson of William Vance Dunnam,who served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from Coryell County in the 35th Legislature,1917-1918.
The Texas Courts of Appeals are part of the Texas judicial system. In Texas,all cases appealed from district and county courts,criminal and civil,go to one of the fourteen intermediate courts of appeals,with one exception:death penalty cases. The latter are taken directly to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals,the court of last resort for criminal matters in the State of Texas. The highest court for civil and juvenile matters is the Texas Supreme Court. While the Supreme Court (SCOTX) and the Court of Criminal Appeals (CCA) each have nine members per the Texas Constitution,the sizes of the intermediate courts of appeals are set by statute and vary greatly,depending on historical case filings and so that the justices on each court can timely adjudicate the volume of cases regularly before them. The total number of intermediate appellate court seats currently stands at 80,ranging from three,four,six,seven,nine,and thirteen (Dallas) per court.
Rodney Glenn Ellis is an American politician. He represented Texas' 13th state senate district in the Texas Senate from 1990 to 2017. The district contains portions of Harris County,including downtown Houston,and Fort Bend County. He is a member of the Democratic Party. On June 25,2016,Ellis won the Democratic Party's nomination for Harris County Commissioners Court Precinct 1. He was elected county commissioner on November 8,2016 and sworn into office on January 1,2017.

Paul Lindsey Sadler is an American attorney from Henderson,Texas,now residing in Bandera,Texas who served from 1991 to 2003 in the Texas House of Representatives. He was the Democratic nominee for the United States Senate in 2012. In the November 6 general election,he lost against the Republican Ted Cruz,a former state Solicitor General.
Burt Rowe Solomons is an attorney from North Carrollton,Texas,who was from 1995 to 2013 a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives from District 65 in suburban southeastern Denton County.
Jeffrey Curtis Leach,known as Jeff Leach,is a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives for District 67,representing a portion of Collin County.
Sylvester Turner is an American attorney and politician who is serving as the 62nd mayor of Houston,Texas. A member of the Democratic Party,Turner was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1989 until 2016. He attended the University of Houston and Harvard Law School. Turner ran for mayor of Houston in 1991,losing in the runoff election to Bob Lanier. He lost again in 2003,coming in third and thus missing the runoff.
Matthew Daniel Rinaldi is an American attorney and politician serving as the chairman of the Republican Party of Texas. Rinaldi was a member of the Texas House of Representatives for district 115 in Dallas County from 2015 to 2019 when he was defeated by Democrat Julie Johnson.
Dennis Higgins Bonnen is an American businessman and politician. Bonnen served as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021. A Republican,Bonnen represented District 25 of the Texas House from 1997 to 2021. In 2013,then-Speaker Joe Straus appointed Bonnen as Speaker Pro Tempore,presiding over the House in the Speaker's absence. In January 2019,Bonnen was elected Speaker. He did not seek re-election in 2020.
