The Texas Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Texas. It is a bicameral body composed of a 31-member Senate and a 150-member House of Representatives. The state legislature meets at the Capitol in Austin. It is a powerful arm of the Texas government not only because of its power of the purse to control and direct the activities of state government and the strong constitutional connections between it and the Lieutenant Governor of Texas,but also due to Texas's plural executive.

The Texas Courts of Appeals are part of the Texas judicial system. In Texas,all cases appealed from district and county courts,criminal and civil,go to one of the fourteen intermediate courts of appeals,with one exception:death penalty cases. The latter are taken directly to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals,the court of last resort for criminal matters in the State of Texas. The highest court for civil and juvenile matters is the Texas Supreme Court. While the Supreme Court (SCOTX) and the Court of Criminal Appeals (CCA) each have nine members per the Texas Constitution,the sizes of the intermediate courts of appeals are set by statute and vary greatly,depending on historical case filings and so that the justices on each court can timely adjudicate the volume of cases regularly before them. The total number of intermediate appellate court seats currently stands at 80,ranging from three,four,six,seven,nine,and thirteen (Dallas) per court.

Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) is a public pension plan of the State of Texas. Established in 1937,TRS provides retirement and related benefits for those employed by the public schools,colleges,and universities supported by the State of Texas and manages a $180 billion trust fund established to finance member benefits. More than 1.6 million public education and higher education employees and retirees participate in the system. TRS is the largest public retirement system in Texas in both membership and assets and the sixth largest public pension fund in America. The agency is headquartered at 1000 Red River Street in the capital city of Austin.
The state of Texas,located in the south in the United States,contains a large community of LGBTQ+ citizens. More specifically,the city Austin,Texas has the third largest population of LGBTQ+ people based on the size of the city. Austin,Texas,and Texas in general,is home to several icons of the LGBTQ+ community such as Karamo Brown,co-founder of the LGBTQ+ group "Queer Eye" and Demi Lovato,a queer artist and activist. There is history of heavy violence against the LGBTQ+ community within Texas such as riots,as well as liberation and parades celebrating those within the community.

Claiborne Washington "Clay" Smothers was an American politician and commentator. He was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from the former District 33-G in Dallas County who served from 1977 to 1981. Though elected as a conservative Democrat,Smothers switched to Republican affiliation on December 17,1979,near the end of the first year of the first administration of Bill Clements,first Republican governor of Texas since Reconstruction.

All of Texas's executive officers were up for election as well as a United States Senate seat,and all of Texas's thirty-six seats in the United States House of Representatives. The Republican and Democratic Parties nominated their candidates by primaries held March 6,2018. Convention Parties nominated their candidates at a series of conventions. County Conventions held March 17,2018,District Conventions held March 24,2018,and a State Convention held April 14,2018. At the present time there is only one Convention Party in Texas,that is the Libertarian Party. Other parties may seek to achieve ballot access.
Chris McNutt is an American conservative activist and gun rights lobbyist who has advocated for "permitless carry" legislation,also known as "Constitutional Carry." He is the president of Texas Gun Rights,a state affiliate of the National Association for Gun Rights.
