Damien Gareth Walters (born 6 April 1982) is a British freerunner and former gymnast from Derbyshire [2] [3] who specializes in tumbling and trampoline. In January 2024, he was announced as the director of an already-filmed comedy action film School Fight which would later feature the same stunt crew in an upcoming Hit-Girl & Kick-Ass reboot. [4]

Career

Walters participated in four Trampoline World Championships. In 2003, he was one of four members of the British team winning the World Title in the team competition. [2] [3] In the years 2001 and 2007, he ranked 4th with the team. He also finished 5th in singles competition in 2003 and 2005.

Since 2007, Walters has not participated in further tournaments and has focused on his other projects, mainly his career as a stuntman. He also appeared in a number of television commercials and has performed in acrobatic shows. [5]

Walters has had the role of stunt double or stunt performer in the films: Hellboy II: The Golden Army , Ninja Assassin , Scott Pilgrim vs. the World , The Eagle , I Am Number Four , Blitz , Colombiana , Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows , and Captain America: The First Avenger . In Kick-Ass , he was credited as both a stunt double and assistant fight coordinator. He also appeared in the films 47 Ronin and Kingsman: The Secret Service. [6]

In 2010, he won the Taurus World Stunt Awards for "Best Fight" in the film Ninja Assassin. [7]

Walters also has a passion for Freerunning where he incorporates his gymnastic skills as well as his stuntman abilities. On YouTube, he is one of the most watched freerunners, with his videos having a total of over 130 million views, [8] leading him to open his own gym, Derby City Gymnastics Club in Derby, where he would shoot short/feature films. In January 2024, Matthew Vaughn announced that two films directed by Walters will be produced, School Fight and The Stuntman . [4]

The Taurus World Stunt Awards is a yearly award ceremony held midyear that honors stunt performers in movies. It is held each year in Los Angeles. The first awards were given out in 2001. The deciding committee has been around since the year 2000. The awards were created by Dietrich Mateschitz, the founder of Red Bull. The awards statue was sculpted by Austrian artist Jos Pirkner, and is a figure in the form of a winged bull.

<i>Kick-Ass</i> (franchise) Media franchise

Kick-Ass is a media franchise based on the adventures of superheroes of the same name, created by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. Set in the Millarworld, it began in 2008 with Marvel's Kick-Ass – The Dave Lizewski Years, followed by the anthology Millarworld Annual from 2016 to 2017, two stand-alone sequel series, Kick-Ass – The New Girl and Hit-Girl, from 2018 to 2020, and two crossover series, Kick-Ass vs. Hit-Girl and Big Game, in 2020 and 2023. In the series, Hit-Girl is a young vigilante going around the world stopping crime in violent ways, while Kick-Ass has had three people take the mantle, a hero, a sidekick, and a villain.

School Fight is an upcoming superhero film written and directed by Damien Walters and produced by Matthew Vaughn. Serving as the first of a new trilogy in, and the third film installment overall in the Kick-Ass franchise Based on characters created by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. in collaboration, Vaughn described the project as "The Inbetweeners with stunt-men," and starring Greg Townley, Paul Lowe and Bobby Holland Hanton, the film will be followed by The Stuntman, again directed by Walters. Filmed in 2021, School Fight is set to be released in 2024.

The Stuntman is an upcoming superhero film directed by Damien Walters. It serves as a standalone sequel to School Fight as the second film in a new trilogy, and fourth movie installment overall in the Kick-Ass film series. The plot is based on the Kick-Ass comic book series by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. in collaboration; it features the same stunt team used in School Fight.
