Damon Wayne Mashore (born October 31,1969) is a former professional baseball player who played three seasons for the Oakland Athletics and Anaheim Angels of Major League Baseball. He is currently the first base coach for the Los Angeles Angels.
Mashore was born in Puerto Rico in 1969 where his mother was visiting his father,Clyde,while he was playing in the Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico. He turned down scholarship offers to play both college football and college baseball for the Miami Hurricanes. [1]
He played collegiately for the University of Arizona from 1989 to 1991 where he earned Second Team All-America honors from Baseball America in 1991 and third-team laurels the same season from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper . [2]
His father played in the majors from 1969 to 1973,mostly for the Montreal Expos. His brother Justin Mashore is a former assistant hitting coach for the Texas Rangers.
Clyde and Damon Mashore each finished their career with 8 home runs. At the time,this was a record for the most career home runs by a father and son who hit exactly the same number. The record was broken in 2016 by Cecil Fielder and Prince Fielder,who each hit 319 home runs. [3]

James Leroy Thomas was an American first baseman and right fielder,coach and front-office executive in Major League Baseball (MLB) who played for six teams from 1961 to 1968,most notably the Los Angeles Angels,then went on to a successful tenure as general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. Traded to the Angels one month after the expansion franchise began play in 1961,he tied for third in Rookie of the Year voting after batting .285 with 24 home runs and 70 runs batted in (RBI),primarily playing in the outfield. The following year,he was named to the American League (AL) All-Star team after shifting to first base,and appeared in both All-Star games played that year as a pinch hitter and late-inning defensive replacement. He finished the year with career highs in batting (.290),home runs (26) and RBI (104),but a sharp decline in 1963 led to his being traded to the Boston Red Sox in mid-1964,the first of four trades before the 1968 season.
