Dan Nelson (born June 21, 1976) [1] is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and bassist from New York City. A solo artist, he is currently the singer, songwriter and guitarist for the band Dan Nelson and The Contention.[ citation needed ]
In the past, Nelson has worked with the Long Island bands Wolfpack Black, Inside Hollow, Discipline, and Devilsize. [2] He was also the lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist for the band BlackGates, which also featured former Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph. [3]
From 2007 to 2009, Nelson was the lead vocalist of American thrash metal band Anthrax, replacing the previous frontman Joey Belladonna following his second departure from the band in January 2007. [4] [2] Nelson was the first Anthrax vocalist to perform with the band in Korea, Colombia, and Estonia. He co-wrote eight songs for the 2011 Anthrax album, Worship Music however his vocal tracks were re-recorded by Belladonna after his departure. According to Scott Ian Nelson's arrangements and lyrics were altered after his departure as well. [5] [6] [7] [8]
In addition, he also provided the lead vocals and co-wrote songs for the band TRED, and their yet to be released debut album.[ citation needed ] The band also features guitarist Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob) and the late AJ Pero (Twisted Sister) on drums.
Nelson made a guest vocal appearance on the track "Black" for German band President Evil, on their album Back from Hell's Holiday, as well as guest vocals on "Six of Cups" (2010) by Bay Area thrash metal band The Venting Machine, "Hand that Feeds" (2010) by New York-based rock band Dormitory Effect, and "Solid 15" (2009) by Hollywood rock group My Evolution.
Nelson provided all guitar, vocal and keyboard tracks for alternative rock band Hawks of Metropolis. He is featured on both the 2013 EP releases Hawks and Non Terminus Tandem.[ citation needed ]
Nelson's two-piece band with drummer Phil Deluxe, Mad Tandem, released their debut demo EP The September Demos on November 1, 2016.[ citation needed ] The music was recorded live, raw and during the actual writing sessions for those songs. Vocals and backing vocals, as well as a few guitar over dubs were added the following day. The whole EP took the duo about a week to finish. The duo wanted to create a "throwback" type of recording....an homage to bands such as The Stooges, The Doors and Cream.[ citation needed ]

Nelson has also composed and contributed to several film soundtracks including House Call (2011), Once Upon a time in Brooklyn (2013) and the 2017 films/shorts Mr. Wonderful, The Regret Cycle, and Krampusnacht.
Nelson is also a producer, most recently recording, mixing and producing the EP Self Destruct (2016) by the band Fatal Rhythm, and the albums Skeleton of Life (2016) and "Stay Alive" (2017) by Erin McAndrew.
Outside his music career, Nelson has dabbled in acting as well, appearing alongside David Naughton and Brian O'Halloran in Brutal Massacre: A Comedy (2006), as well as The Regret Cycle and Krampusnacht.

Anthrax is an American thrash metal band from New York City, formed in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. The group is considered one of the leaders of the thrash metal scene from the 1980s and is part of the "Big Four" of the genre, along with Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. They were also one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the East Coast. The band's current lineup consists of Scott Ian, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, vocalist Joey Belladonna and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais. Anthrax's lineup has changed numerous times over their career, leaving Ian as the only constant member of the band. Ian and Benante are the only two members to appear on all of Anthrax's albums, while Bello has been a member of Anthrax since 1984, replacing Lilker.
Fistful of Metal is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Anthrax, released in January 1984 by Megaforce Records and Music for Nations internationally. The album includes a cover of Alice Cooper's "I'm Eighteen". This is the band's only album to feature original frontman Neil Turbin and original bassist Dan Lilker, who were replaced by Matt Fallon and Frank Bello, respectively. Former original guitarist Greg Walls claims that Anthrax "ripped him off" as he claims he wrote the material on the album.

Watchtower is an American progressive metal band based in Austin, Texas, active from 1982 to 1993 and they have reunited occasionally since 1999. The band has released two studio albums―Energetic Disassembly (1985) and Control and Resistance (1989)―as well as one compilation album, four digital singles, one EP and three demo cassettes, and has been featured on numerous compilation albums. They are also notable for featuring vocalist Jason McMaster, who left Watchtower after the release of Energetic Disassembly to form Dangerous Toys, and was replaced by Alan Tecchio, who appeared on Control and Resistance and the band's 2016 EP Concepts of Math: Book One. Armored Saint is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1982. Since 1990, the band has consisted of John Bush on lead vocals, Joey Vera on bass, Jeff Duncan on guitar and the Sandoval brothers on drums and guitar, respectively. Of the current lineup, Bush and Vera are the two constant members. To date, the band has released eight studio albums, one EP, two live albums and one compilation album.
Onslaught are a British thrash metal band from Bristol, England, active from 1982 to 1991 and again since 2005. The band initially drew influences from US and British hardcore punk bands such as Discharge and the Exploited, as well as the new wave of British heavy metal, and eventually adopted a straightforward thrash metal sound. Worship Music is the tenth studio album by American heavy metal band Anthrax. The album was released on September 12, 2011 internationally, and on September 13 in the United States. It was the band's first album of original material since 2003's We've Come for You All, the first full-length Anthrax album since the return of longtime vocalist Joey Belladonna, and the final album with guitarist Rob Caggiano prior to his departure in January 2013.
