The Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling is the Academy Award given to the best achievement in makeup and hairstyling for film. Traditionally, three films have been nominated each year with exceptions in the early 1980s and 2002 when there were only two nominees; in 1999, when there were four nominees. Beginning with the 92nd Academy Awards, five films were nominated.

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel hosted for the second consecutive year.

He is best known for his frequent collaborations with Mexican director Guillermo del Toro and has been nominated two times for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design on two of his films: The Shape of Water (2017) and Nightmare Alley (2021).

David Malinowski is a BAFTA and Oscar winning special effects make-up artist. He started his career in 1996 and spent 10 years working for Madame Tussauds in London, then left to pursue his career in film and television. At the 2018 BAFTA Film Awards, he won the award for Film Makeup and Hair, and at the 90th Academy Awards, he won the award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for his work on the 2017 film Darkest Hour. He was nominated with Kazuhiro Tsuji and Lucy Sibbick. He lives in the Buckinghamshire village of Aston Clinton.

In the 2013 film Pompeii, he won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Art Direction/Production Design at the 3rd Canadian Screen Awards in 2015 with Nigel Churcher.
