Daniel Quizon (born October 11, 2004) is a Filipino chess player and the current Philippine Chess Champion. [1] He was awarded the title of Grandmaster (GM) by FIDE in 2024. [2]
He qualified to play in the Chess World Cup 2021, [3] where he was defeated 1.5-0.5 by Evgeny Bareev in the first round. [4]
He won the AQ Prime ASEAN Chess Championship in February 2023, earning him a GM norm. [5] in June 2023, he earned his third norm after he went unbeaten at the ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. [6]
On March 31, 2024, Quizon defeated Nguyễn Anh Dũng and win the Hanoi Grandmaster Chess Tournament claiming his third and final GM norm in Vietnam. [7] On September 14, 2024, Quizon was awarded the title of Grandmaster (GM) after defeating GM Igor Efimov in the 45th Chess Olympiad. [8]
Ray Robson is an American chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2010. Robson fulfilled the requirements for the title in 2009 at the age of 14 years, 11 months and 16 days, making him the youngest ever United States Grandmaster at the time.

Wesley Barbossa So is a Filipino and American chess grandmaster, a three-time U.S. Chess Champion, and the first World Fischer Random Chess Champion. He is also a three-time Philippine Chess Champion. On the March 2017 FIDE rating list, he was ranked number two in the world and had an Elo rating of 2822, making him the fifth-highest-rated player in history.

Eugenio "Eugene" Torre is a Filipino chess grandmaster. In 1974, at 22 years old, he became the first Filipino and non-Soviet Asian to qualify for the title Grandmaster. Torre did this by winning the silver medal in the 21st Chess Olympiad in Nice, France. He is considered the strongest chess player the Philippines produced during the 1980s and 1990s, and played for the Philippines on board 1 in seventeen Chess Olympiads. In 2021, Torre was inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame.

Titles generally require a combination of Elo rating and norms. Once awarded, titles are held for life except in cases of fraud or cheating. Open titles may be earned by all players, while women's titles are restricted to female players. Many strong female players hold both open and women's titles. FIDE also awards titles for arbiters, organizers and trainers. Titles for correspondence chess, chess problem composition and chess problem solving are no longer administered by FIDE.
Nelson Isurina Mariano II is a Filipino chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2004, the fifth from the Philippines. Mariano won the Asian Junior Chess Championship in 1994.
Alekhine Nouri is a Filipino FIDE Master. Named after Russian chess player Alexander Alekhine, Nouri became the youngest Filipino FIDE Master and the youngest FIDE Master in the world at the age of 7. He is also the current Philippine Juniors Champion.
Oliver Barbosa is a Filipino chess grandmaster. He earned his International Master title in 2008 and his grandmaster title in 2011. Barbosa won the 10th Parsvnath International Grandmasters Tournament in New Delhi, with 9.5/11 and an astounding Tournament Performance Rating (TPR) of 2710. By winning the said tournament, he also raised his ELO Live Rating from 2573 to 2627 as he gained 53.8 ELO rating points. He earned his first GM norm in the Asian Individual in Mashad, Iran and his second norm in the Philippines National Championships. In 2014, he tied for 1st–2nd with Francisco Vallejo Pons in the Thailand Open Chess Championship.
Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa is an Indian chess grandmaster. As of 2 September 2024, Praggnanandhaa is ranked 12th in the world by the International Chess Federation. Praggnanandhaa and his sister Vaishali are the first brother and sister to earn GM titles. They are also the first brother and sister to qualify for the Candidates Tournament.
Janelle Mae Frayna is a Filipina chess player. She was awarded the title of Woman Grandmaster by FIDE in 2017, becoming the first from the Philippines to achieve this. She is a 3-time and the current Philippine Women's Chess Champion.
