Daniel Quizon (born 2004) is a Filipino chess player and is the current Philippine Chess Champion. [1] He was awarded the title of International Master (IM) by FIDE in 2018. [2]

He qualified to play for the Chess World Cup 2021 [3] where he was defeated 1.5-0.5 by Evgeny Bareev in the first round. [4]

He won the AQ Prime ASEAN Chess Championship last February 2023, earning him a GM norm. [5] Last June 2023, he earned his third norm after he went unbeaten on the ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. [6]

On March 31, 2024, Quizon defeated Nguyễn Anh Dũng and ruled the Hanoi Grandmaster Chess Tournament claiming the third and final GM norm in Vietnam. [7]

FIDE titles are awarded by the international chess governing body FIDE for outstanding performance. The highest such title is Grandmaster (GM). Titles generally require a combination of Elo rating and norms. Once awarded, titles are held for life except in cases of fraud or cheating. Open titles may be earned by all players, while women's titles are restricted to female players. Many strong female players hold both open and women's titles. FIDE also awards titles for arbiters, organizers and trainers. Titles for correspondence chess, chess problem composition and chess problem solving are no longer administered by FIDE.

By winning the said tournament, he also raised his ELO Live Rating from 2573 to 2627 as he gained 53.8 ELO rating points to become the Philippines 3rd Super GM. He earned his first GM norm in the Asian Individual in Mashad, Iran and his second norm in the Philippines National Championships. In 2014, he tied for 1st–2nd with Francisco Vallejo Pons in the Thailand Open Chess Championship.
