The swimming competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place from 9 to 17 August 2008 at the Beijing National Aquatics Centre. The newly introduced open water marathon events (10 km) were held on 20 and 21 August 2008 at Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park.
Thiago Machado Vilela Pereira is a retired Brazilian international competition swimmer. One of the greatest swimmers in the history of Brazil, Pereira won the silver medal in the 400-meter individual medley at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, beating the then-current Olympic champion Michael Phelps. He also broke a world record in the short course 200-meter individual medley, and broke several South American and Brazilian records. During his career, he competed with swimming legends Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte.
Nathan Ghar-jun Adrian is an American competitive swimmer and five-time Olympic gold medalist who formerly held the American record in the long course 50-meter freestyle event.
Chloe Elizabeth Sutton Mackey is an American competition swimmer who specializes in freestyle and long-distance events. Sutton represented the United States at two consecutive Olympic Games. Sutton has won a total of five medals in major international competition, three gold, one silver, and one bronze spanning the Open Water Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, and Pan American Games. She was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, and competed in the 400-meter freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Mateo De Angulo Velasco is a Colombian swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. He is a 2010 NJCAA Men's Swimmer of the Year, and nine-time NJCAA champion. He also holds Colombian records in all three long-distance freestyle events. De Angulo helped his Colombian team to take the trophy in the 800 m freestyle relay at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.
David Karl Brandl is an Austrian swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. He is a multiple-time Austrian champion, a four-time national record holder, and a current member of Perger Swimming Club in Perg. He also won a bronze medal, as a member of the Austrian swimming team, at the 2008 European Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
Jördis Steinegger is an Austrian swimmer who specialized in freestyle and individual medley events. She is a two-time Olympian, a nine-time long and short course Austrian record holder, and a member of the Linz Amateur Swimming Club in Linz, under her personal coach Marco Wolf.
Raphaël Stacchiotti is a Luxembourgish swimmer, who specialized in the freestyle and individual medley events. He is a four-time Olympian, a multiple-time Luxembourgian record holder in all freestyle and medley events, and a double European junior champion. Stacchiotti also holds numerous meet records and collects a total of 49 medals from the Games of the Small States of Europe. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Stacchiotti became the youngest athlete to be chosen by the Luxembourg squad, and was given the honor of carrying the nation's flag in the opening ceremony.
Glenn Surgeloose is a Belgian swimmer, who specializes in sprint freestyle events. He collected a bronze medal in the 200 m freestyle at the 2007 European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. Surgeloose is a member of Brabo Antwerp, and is coached and trained by Ronald Gaastra.

Daniel William Henry "Danny" Wong Bego is a Malaysian swimmer, who specialises in freestyle and butterfly events. He emerged as one of Malaysia's most promising and outstanding swimmers, winning a total of fifteen medals at the Southeast Asian Games, and breaking six national records. He was the first Malaysian swimmer to compete in three different events at a single Olympic Games.
Maiko Fujino is a Japanese swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle and individual medley events. She represented her nation Japan at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and has won a career total of six medals in a major international competition, spanning the Pan Pacific Championships and three editions of the Asian Games. Fujino was also a student at Takushoku University in Tokyo.

Prono is a member of the swimming team for Auburn Tigers, and a graduate of marketing at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He is also a resident athlete of the Pine Crest Swim Team in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he trained with numerous world-class swimmers, including three-time Olympian Bradley Ally of Barbados, and freestyle specialist Daniele Tirabassi of Venezuela.
Jan Albert Venter is a South African swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. Venter won a bronze medal, as a member of the South African team, in the 4 × 200 metre freestyle relay at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. He also helped his team to claim the title in the same relay distance at the 2011 All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique, posting a meet record time of 7:33.63.
Travis Mahoney is an Australian medley and backstroke swimmer. Winner of two relay medals at the 2012 World Short Course Championships, he is also part of the quartet that broke the world record in the short course mixed 4 × 50 metres freestyle relay. In 2016, he qualified for his first Olympic Games.
