Danube Kangjam, shortly known as Danu, [1] is an Indian model and actress. She is native to Imphal, Manipur. She is the title holder of the 18th Sunsilk Miss Mega Northeast beauty pageant in 2021. She is an activist for social issues with cybercrime, LGBT rights, body positivity and self-acceptance. [2] [3] [4] She was the winner of the "Graceful Walk" title in the Miss Spring contest in the second edition of Shirui Lily Festival. [5] Danube represents her state Manipur in the Miss Universe India 2024 beauty pageant and won Best National Costume. [6]

Early life

Danube Kangjam (Meitei : ꯗꯥꯅꯨꯕꯤ ꯀꯥꯡꯖꯝ) was born to Birendra Singh Kangjam and Khuraijam Tarunibala. She belongs to Imphal West district of Manipur. [7] Besides being a law student, she also worked as an anchor at ImpactTv. Before she started her modeling career, she was a fencing player and had represented Manipur at the National Games. [7]

Education

Danube is a student of law education. [2] [4]

She is a BA LLB from Vishal Law Institute, under Manipur University. She did her schooling from Shishu Nistha Niketan and Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya. [7]

Career

Danube got her inspiration from Mega Miss North East 2015 winner Jessica Marbanian. [2] [4]

Upon winning the 18th Sunsilk Miss Mega Northeast beauty pageant in 2021, she said,

This pageant holds a very special place in my heart, and my ambition to come here brought me into the world of pageantry through the state pageant. So, I feel really grateful and happy on winning this crown. [2] [4]

Danube Kangjam was a judge of the Miss Phek 2023 at the Phek District Beauty Pageant 2023 held at Phek town on August 25 under the aegis of Vogue Entertainment Nagaland (VEN). [8]

She achieved the title of "Graceful Walk" in the Miss Spring contest in the second edition of Shirui Lily Festival. [5]

She stands in for her home state Manipur in the Miss Universe India 2024 beauty pageant. [6]

Awards

Danube was awarded the Best Actress SIFF-2019 for a Meitei language music video named Khoidajei (My secret love) in the SKG International Film Festival (SIFF-2019) held from 29 May to 2 June 2019 at Ahmedabad, India. [1]

It is first known from engravings on 6th century CE coins and copper plate inscriptions. as verified by the various publications of the National Sahitya Akademi. It was used until the 18th century, when it was replaced by the Bengali alphabet. A few manuscripts survive. In the 20th century, the script was revived and is again being used. Beginning in 2021, the Government of Manipur began to use the Meitei alongside the Bengali-Assamese script, per the Manipur Official Language (Amendment) Act, 2021.

Shirui, initially called Shiroy/Shiroi, is a village located north of Ukhrul in Ukhrul district, Manipur state, India. The village is 15 kilometers from Ukhrul. National Highway 150 Imphal-Kohima via Jessami passes through the village. The village is divided into two parts, Shirui ato and Shirui aze; however, both the parts are under one chief. Shirui is famous for the rich and flora found on Shirui Kashong or Shirui peak and especially for blooming of the rare Lilium mackliniae during the start of Monsoon. The village is flanked by Ukhrul in the west, Langdang in the south, Mapum in the east, Sihai in the North east and Lunghar in the north. Locally inhabitants speak Shirui dialect which belongs to the Tibeto-Burman language family.

In 2017, Shirui Lily Festival was declared as a state festival by the Government of Manipur. The 2023 Shirui Lily Festival was postponed due to the prevailing tension in the region.

Apaiba Leichil is a 2021 Manipuri film directed by Bobby Wahengbam. It is jointly produced by Wahengbam Tomba, Hanjabam Sobhananda (Bung) Sharma and Bobby Wahengbam under the banner of Third Eye Productions. The film is based on the short story Nungshibagi Saklon (Nungsitombi) by Rajmani Ayekpam. It stars Bishesh Huirem and Arun Yumnam in the lead roles. The film won three awards at the 14th Manipur State Film Awards 2022. It got official selections at the 18th International Film Festival of Thrissur 2023, Kerala Kashish International Queer Film Festival 2023, Mumbai.
