Dashgombyn Battulga (born 4 March 1966) is a Mongolian judoka and sambist. He competed in the men's extra-lightweight event at the 1992 Summer Olympics. [1] He won silver at the 1989 Sambo World Cup, along with bronze at the 1988 World Sambo Championships and 1989 World Judo Championships. [2]
Sambo is a martial art with Soviet origins, an internationally practiced combat sport, and a recognized style of amateur wrestling included by UWW in the World Wrestling Championships along with Greco-Roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling.
Tsendiin Damdin was a Mongolian wrestler who represented his country in sambo and judo. At the 1980 Summer Olympics he won the silver medal in the men's Half Lightweight (–65 kg) category. In 1979 he won gold medal at World Sambo Championships in lightweight category.
Oleg Sergeevich Stepanov was a judoka and sambo competitor. Domestically he was mostly known for sambo, which was a very popular sport in the Soviet Union, albeit with a limited international recognition. Between 1958 and 1968 Stepanov won eight national titles in sambo. Internationally he competed in judo, which has similar rules to sambo. The first Soviet judo team was formed in 1962 from the best sambo competitors, including Stepanov, and in 1963 it showed its strength in Europe and Japan. Later Stepanov won bronze medals at the 1964 Olympics and 1965 World Championships, as well as European titles in 1965 and 1966.
Hendrik "Henk" Numan was a judoka from the Netherlands, who won a bronze medal in half-heavyweight division (–95 kg) at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. His only loss at that tournament was against the later champion Robert Van De Walle from Belgium. A year earlier, Numan won a bronze medal at the 1979 World Judo Championships. In 1992, he also competed in Japanese professional wrestling for Fighting Network RINGS as a part of Chris Dolman's team.

Murat Ruslanovich Khasanov ; is a Russian Sambist and Judoka. He is the only 11-time world heavyweight champion in Sambo. Considered to be one of the greatest practitioners of Sambo and is a member of the FIAS Hall of fame. For high sporting achievements, in 1995 he was awarded the honorary title "Honored Master of Sports of Russia" in Sambo, and in 2003 he was awarded the Order of Friendship. He is currently a Member of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
Anzor Kiknadze was a Georgian judoka who won a bronze medal in the heavyweight division (+80 kg) at the 1964 Summer Olympics. At the world championships he won two bronze medals, in 1965 and 1967. At the European Championships he won an open title in 1962, 1964, 1965 and 1966, and finished second in 1967 and 1968. He was also European team champion in 1963–66, winning team bronzes in 1962 and 1967. Nationally, he was a Soviet champion in sambo in 1961–1965, but never competed in the judo championships, which were first held in 1973. After retiring from competitions he coached sambo and judo in Tbilisi where he died in a car accident, aged 43.
Nicholas "Nick" Tritton is a male judoka who grew up in the Perth/Lanark area of Ontario Canada. Nicholas was a member of Canada's National Team for more than ten years and won many medals domestically and internationally including 13 medals on the Grand Slam, Grand Prix and World Cup circuit including back to back bronze medals at the prestigious Tokyo Grand Slam as well as the bronze medal in the men's lightweight division at the 2007 Pan American Games, alongside Cuba's Ronald Girones and another bronze at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico. He represented Canada in the sport of Judo at the 2008 Summer & 2012 Summer Olympics and at five World Championships. He won 5 medals at the Pan American Judo Championships. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2005 Francophone Games and a silver at the 2009 Francophone Games.
Mark Berger is a Ukrainian-born Canadian judoka. He won the gold medal in the men's heavyweight judo event at the 1983 Pan American Games and a bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He also competed in sambo, winning silver at the 1988 World Championships.
Mönkhbatyn Urantsetseg is a Mongolian sambist and retired judoka who competed in the 48 kg category, and World Champion in both sports. In 2021, she won one of the bronze medals in the women's 48 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Yauhen Biadulin is a Belarusian judoka. He competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the -100 kg event.
Beslan Zaudinovich Mudranov is a Russian judoka and former Sambo wrestler (2003–2008) of Circassian descent. He won two gold medals in 2012 European Judo Championships and 2014 European Judo Championships. His coach is Rudolf Mikhailovich Baboyan. Beslan earned Russia's first gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Lynn Joyce Roethke is an American female judoka. Among her most notable accomplishments, Lynn is a two-time Olympic athlete, a Pan American gold medalist, and World Champion Silver medalist. She was the first female to be inducted to the Black Belt Hall of Fame and voted as Olympic Athlete of the Year. She competed in the −61 kg division for most of her competitive career.

Saeid Mollaei was born on January 5, 1992, in Tehran to ethnic Azerbaijani parents originally from Khoy. In 2001, at the age of 10, he entered the Persian Gulf Judo School by Dr. Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, a judo instructor. Iranian authorities ordered Mollaei to intentionally lose in the semi-final at the Tokyo 2019 World Championships, so as to avoid a potential match in the finals against Israeli 2019 world champion Sagi Muki. In August 2019, he moved to Europe with a two-year visa from Germany, saying he was afraid to return to Iran after exposing and criticizing its pressure on him to deliberately lose in the World Championships. In December 2019, he became a citizen of Mongolia. He dedicated his 2020 Olympic medal to Mongolia and Mongol People and to Israel. From May 2022 on, Mollaei represents Azerbaijan.
Khaltmaagiin Battulga is a Mongolian politician and sambo wrestler who served as the 5th President of Mongolia from 2017 to 2021. He served as Member of the State Great Khural from 2004 to 2016 and Minister of Roads, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development from 2008 to 2012. Before his career in politics, Battulga was a sambo wrestling champion. He was the Democratic Party's candidate in the 2017 presidential election and was elected President with 50.6% in the run-off, the first-ever run-off election in modern Mongolian history. Mongolians are sharply divided about his role in the 2019 Mongolian constitutional crisis.
Ivan Netov is a Bulgarian sambist and judoka. In sambo, Netov is a multiple-time medalist at the World and European Championships, winning gold at both in 1995. In judo, he won bronze at the 1992 European Championships and competed at the Summer Olympics in 1992 and 1996.
Svetlana Alekseevna Galante is a Russian judoka and a sambo practitioner. She is considered to be one of the greatest practitioners of Sambo and is a member of the FIAS Hall of fame.
