David Byas (born 26 August 1963) [1] ) is an English first-class cricketer,who played for Yorkshire and latterly Lancashire,in a 17-year first-class career.
Byas grew up on a farm in Yorkshire,having attended school at Scarborough College. He was a left-handed batsman who scored a century,on the day his son was born,and very occasionally bowled right-arm medium pace. He was appointed Yorkshire's captain at the start of the 1996 season,following the resignation of Martyn Moxon. In 2001,he led the county to their first County Championship title win for 33 years,sealing the championship with a catch taken at North Marine Road.
In 1995,Byas was on the verge of an England call-up,having been the first player to reach 1,000 runs in that season,only the return to fitness of Michael Atherton and Graeme Hick,prevented him from doing so. In total he scored 1,913 runs in the whole campaign.
His highest score of 213,was made at his home ground of North Marine Road,being one of only five players to achieve a double-hundred in the first-class game,at this stadium.
Byas started his career in 1978,as a second-team player at Scarborough. However,he ultimately helped the club to the latter two of their five ECB National Club Cricket Championship titles (1981 and 1982) at Lord's. In 1984,he set a record in the now former Yorkshire League,by scoring 1,349 runs for the season,a record which stood for 19 years.
Since retiring,Byas has been a manager and coach at Scarborough,in charge of cricket development at Pocklington School,a senior cricket advisor at Yorkshire County Cricket Club,and runs his own cricket school,the 'Byas Academy'.
In November 2021,it came to light that Byas had been named in the witness statement of Azeem Rafiq for an employment tribunal regarding racism Rafiq had faced at Yorkshire County Cricket Club. It was alleged that Byas regularly used racist language and nicknames. [2] Byas has denied these allegations.
Michael Paul Vaughan is an English cricket commentator and former cricketer who played all forms of the game. He served as England captain for the test team from 2003 to 2008,the one-day international team from 2003–2007,and was the first Twenty20 England captain from 2005–2007. He represented Yorkshire in the domestic arena.

Martin Bladen Hawke,7th Baron Hawke,generally known as Lord Hawke,was an English amateur cricketer active from 1881 to 1911 who played for Yorkshire and England. He was born in Willingham by Stow,near Gainsborough,Lincolnshire,and died in Edinburgh. He appeared in 633 first-class matches,including five Test matches,as a righthanded batsman,scoring 16,749 runs with a highest score of 166 and held 209 catches. He scored 13 centuries and 69 half-centuries.
Matthew James Hoggard,is a former English cricketer,who played international cricket for England cricket team from 2000 to 2008,playing both Test cricket and One Day Internationals. The 6' 2" Hoggard was a right arm fast-medium bowler and right-handed batsman.

Martyn Douglas Moxon is a former English cricketer,who played in ten Test matches and eight One Day Internationals for England and for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1980 and 1997. In May 2007,Moxon was confirmed as Director of Professional Cricket at Yorkshire,a role which he left in December 2021 in the wake of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club racism scandal in which he had been embroiled.
Richard Clive Hughes was an English first-class cricketer who played 11 games for Worcestershire in the early 1950s.

Lamplough Wallgate was an English amateur first-class cricketer,who played three first-class matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Wallgate made his debut in 1875,and his final appearance was in 1878.
Peter John Kippax was an English first-class cricketer who played for Yorkshire,Durham and Northumberland. A right-handed batsman and leg spin bowler,he played five first-class matches but they spanned twenty six years.

The Scarborough Festival is an end of season series of cricket matches featuring Yorkshire County Cricket Club which has been held in Scarborough,on the east coast of Yorkshire,since 1876. The ground,at North Marine Road,sees large crowds of holiday makers watching a mixture of first-class county cricket,one-day fixtures and invitation XIs in the late August/early September sunshine every year. Many of the world's greatest cricketers have played in festival matches over the years.
Gary Simon Ballance is a Zimbabwean cricketer who also represented England internationally until 2017,and represents Zimbabwe from 2022 onwards. He is a left-handed batsman and a leg break bowler,who last played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club. He was born in Harare,Zimbabwe.
Azeem Rafiq is a British Asian cricketer who played professionally in England for Yorkshire County Cricket Club. A right arm off-spin bowler,Rafiq played for the county between 2008 and 2014 and 2016 and 2018,making his senior debut at the age of 17. He captained the England under-15 and under-19 sides,and in 2012 became the youngest man to captain a Yorkshire side as well as the first person of Asian origin to do so.
North Marine Road Ground,formerly known as Queen's,is a cricket ground in Scarborough,North Yorkshire,England. It is the home of Scarborough Cricket Club which hosts the Scarborough Festival and the Yorkshire County Cricket Club plays a series of fixtures in the second half of the season each year. The current capacity is 11,500,while its record attendance is the 22,946 who watched Yorkshire play Derbyshire in 1947. The two ‘ends’are known as the Peasholm Park End and the Trafalgar Square End.

Jordan Clark is an English cricketer. Clark is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm medium pace and who occasionally fields as a wicket-keeper. He was born in Whitehaven,Cumbria and was educated at Sedbergh School.

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club racism scandal developed from complaints made in 2018 by former Yorkshire cricket player,Azeem Rafiq. Rafiq alleged that he was subjected to racist abuse and bullying during his two tenures at the club between 2008–2014,and 2016–2018 and accused the club of being institutionally racist. He complained officially in 2018,but an independent inquiry was not launched until 2020,leading to criticism of Yorkshire County Cricket Club (YCCC) for its handling of the affair. The chairperson resigned in November 2021,being replaced by Kamlesh Patel. Two former England players have been alleged to have used racist language whilst playing for the club.
