David Joy Gbashai Kamara (born 4 January 2006) is a footballer who plays as a forward for EFL League One club Peterborough United.
Kamara was born in the London Borough of Lambeth and attended St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Rotherhithe. [3] He began his career at Welling United, coming through the academy ranks before making his debut in a 1–0 London Senior Cup victory over Cray Valley Paper Mills. [4] The next season, he would score his first goal for the Wings in a 3–2 league victory over Havant & Waterlooville. [5]
Kamara's performances attracted attention from Football League sides, with him holding trials at both Gillingham [6] and Peterborough United, [7] as well as interest from Luton Town. However, it would be Peterborough that would confirm the signing of Kamara on 10 June 2024. [8]
Kamara made his senior debut on 8 October 2024, coming on as a substitute for Abraham Odoh in a 2–0 EFL Trophy victory over Stevenage. [9]
On 10 October 2025, Kamara joined Enterprise National League North side King's Lynn Town on an initial one-month loan [10]
On 12 November 2025, Kamara signed a new long-term contract at Peterborough until 2029. [11] The following day Kamara joined Harborough Town on loan until the end of the season [12]
Kamara is of Sierra Leonean descent. He was called up, along with 20 other foreign-based players, to the provisional Sierra Leone U20 squad in preparation for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. [13]
