David William Smith (born 2 November 1974) is a male retired hammer thrower who competed for Great Britain at the 1996 Summer Olympics. [1]
Smith, a member of the City of Hull AC, became the British hammer throw champion after winning the British AAA Championships title at the 1996 AAA Championships. [2] [3]
At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Smith represented Great Britain in the men's hammer throw event throwning 69.32 metres in the qualifying round. [4]
He represented England in the hammer throw event, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. [5] [6] [7]
In 2002 he was ranked as the country's number one, but he retired in 2003. [8]
In 2015 Smith was sentenced to two years in prison for a sexual offence. [9] [10]
