David T. Vieira is the current member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives for the 3rd Barnstable district. Vieira is also a Falmouth town meeting member and has been Moderator of that body since 1998. [1]
Vieira was born in Teaticket,Massachusetts. He graduated from Falmouth High School and then studied at American University. After his junior year of high school,in 1992,he attended Massachusetts American Legion Boys State and was elected to represent Massachusetts as a Senator at American Legion Boys Nation. He later earned an MPA degree from Suffolk University. [2] David is an Eagle Scout from Troop 42 out of East Falmouth.

The American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State are summer leadership and citizenship programs for high school juniors,which focus on exploring the mechanics of American government and politics. The programs are sponsored by the American Legion (AL) and the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) respectively. Boys and girls are usually nominated by their high school during their junior year. Boys and Girls State programs both began in 1937 and are held in each of the U.S. states,usually at a college within that state. There is also a coed Boys/Girls State session held in Washington,D.C. In general,male and female programs are held separately,but at least eleven states—Georgia,Nebraska,Oregon,California,Louisiana,Massachusetts,Pennsylvania,New Hampshire,Rhode Island,Maine,and Missouri—host Boys and Girls State on the same campus on the same week.

Matthew C. Patrick is a former Democratic politician who served as member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He represented the 3rd Barnstable District from 2001 to 2011. During his time on Beacon Hill,he was a leading progressive voice in the Massachusetts General Court. He was unopposed for re-election in the 2006 elections,but was defeated by Falmouth Town Moderator David Vieira in the 2010 general election. Vieira had previously run against Patrick when he was first elected in 2000.

The Falmouth Road Race in running and the Fitchburg Longsjo Classic in bicycle racing are also very popular events with long histories.

He was an All-American football player for Dartmouth College in 1912 and a professional baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1913.
