Steven G. Xiarhos[ pronunciation? ] (born December 8,1958) is an American politician and retired law enforcement officer serving as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from the 5th Barnstable district. Elected in November 2020,he assumed office on January 6,2021.
Xiarhos was born and raised in New Bedford,Massachusetts. He earned an Associate of Science in criminal justice and safety studies from Cape Cod Community College,a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and law enforcement administration from Northeastern University,and a Master of Science in criminal justice and law enforcement administration from Anna Maria College. Xiarhos worked as a police officer in Yarmouth,Massachusetts from 1979 to 2019,retiring as deputy chief. During his career,Xiarhos also worked as a school resource officer,detective,and patrol sergeant. [2] Xiarhos has also been a member of the board of directors of the Massachusetts Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund. Xiarhos was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in November 2020 and assumed office on January 6,2021. In the House,Xiarhos is the ranking member of the State Administration and Regulatory Oversight Joint Committee and Veterans and Federal Affairs Joint Committee. [3]
Xiarhos and his first wife,Lisa,had four children,the oldest was son Nicholas Xiarhos. Nicholas died in Afghanistan while serving in the United States Marine Corps. [4] [5]

First settled by the English in 1664,the township was originally called Monomoit based on the indigenous population's term for the region. Chatham was incorporated as a town on June 11,1712,and has become a summer resort area. The population was 6,594 at the 2020 census,and can swell to 25,000 during the summer months. There are four villages that comprise the town,those being Chatham (CDP),South Chatham,North Chatham,and West Chatham. Chatham is home to the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge,and the decommissioned Monomoy Point Light both located on Monomoy Island. Falmouth is a town in Barnstable County,Massachusetts,United States. The population was 32,517 at the 2020 census,making Falmouth the second-largest municipality on Cape Cod after Barnstable. The terminal for the Steamship Authority ferries to Martha's Vineyard is located in the village of Woods Hole in Falmouth. Zeno Scudder was the son of Deacon Josiah and Hannah Scudder. He was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Massachusetts. He was born in Osterville,Massachusetts,on August 18,1807. He had a paralysis in his right leg that made a naval career impossible. He studied medicine at Bowdoin College and then law at the Cambridge Law School. He was admitted to the bar in 1856 and conducted practice in Barnstable,Massachusetts. Scudder was a member of the Massachusetts Senate 1846–1848 and served as Senate President.
