Davido Music Worldwide (commonly known as DMW), is a Nigerian record label owned by Afrobeats singer Davido. The label is home to recording acts, such as Dremo, Yonda, Peruzzi, Idowest from Lagos Island, DJ Ecool, Danagog, B-Red, Deekay, May D, Deinde, Ayanfe, Liya, Morravey, SAYTHEYCALLMESG and Logos Olori. It also houses producers Fresh vdm and Speroach Beatz. Artists affiliated and formerly signed to the label, include Ichaba, Lola Rae, Lil Frosh, and Mayorkun.

In 2020, Billboard Magazine named DMW as one of The Gatekeepers of the Nigerian music industry. [1]

History

On 18 April 2016, Davido founded Davido Music Worldwide, following his exit from HKN Music with his music acts Mayorkun, and Dremo over an issue with his cousin B-Red, for hating on him over the success of Mayorkun. [2] On 29 September 2016, Ichaba signed a joint venture between Davido Music Worldwide, and APPE Music Entertainment. [3] On 5 November 2016, Davido signed Lola Rae to DMW, as its first lady. [4] On 20 January 2017, Davido signed Yonda, [5] and also welcomed Peruzzi on 16 November 2017 to DMW. [6] On 24 May 2018, Davido signed Idowest to DMW, [7] and Deekay was welcomed on 27 September 2018, with a single "Hangover" [8] featuring Peruzzi. On 26 October 2019, Davido signed Lil Frosh to DMW. [9] On 15 January 2020, Davido signed Ayanfe to DMW, [10] and Davido welcomed B-Red on 22 February 2020 to DMW. [11] On 18 July 2020, Davido signed May D to DMW. [12] On 27 September 2020, Deinde joined DMW artist roaster, following his deal with DMW. [13] On 2 October 2020, Davido signed Liya, his first female artist to DMW. [14] Same day, Lola Rae, tweeted "Excited to hear Davido is signing a new female artist!!! This is amazing amazing news! I was never signed to Davido; he was just incredibly kind enough to help push & promote an upcoming artist aka myself! God bless him forever for that so grateful". [15]

In 2018, DJ Ecool, who also serves as Davido official disc jockey, became a member of DMW. [16] In March 2023, Davido announced the signings of Logos Olori and Morravey to DMW, and made a change to the label's logo. [17]

In 2024, Nigerian Street musician, rapper and Afrobeats singer Idowu Emmanuel Ayoola popularly known as SAYTHEYCALLMESG or SGof30BG, who serves as Davido Music Worldwide handler, became a member of DMW but it is still unannounced by the record label boss Davido

Departures

Ichaba

On 1 November 2019, he uncovered his record deal with DMW, according to him on Catch Up, he tells City 105.1 FM, "I was about to get signed to them at some point but, there were some little distractions on my end. Presently it just like I’m signed because I get all the perks of a signed artist. I don’t have plans to get signed to another record label". [18]

Lola Rae

On 2 October 2020, Lola Rae, tweeted she was never signed to DMW, but she is forever grateful to Davido. [15]

Lil Frosh and allegations of domestic violence

On 6 October 2020, Davido terminated Lil Frosh contract with DMW, over an allegations of domestic violence by his girlfriend Gift Camille, which went viral on Monday, 5 October. [19]

Mayorkun

In 2021, Mayorkun announced his exit from DMW with the release of his single "Let Me Know" off his second album "Back In Office", released through Sony Music West Africa. [20] [21] At the album launch of Back In Office, Davido made it public as he gave a speech at the event.

Liya

On 19 July 2023, Liya replied to a fan on her Instagram comment section, confirming she was no longer with the label. [22]

Accolades

DMW won Record Label of the Year at The Beatz Awards 2019, [23] and City People Music Awards 2017/2018, and was nominated at City People Music Awards 2016.

Ayoola Oladapo Agboola also known as KDDO is a Nigerian record producer, songwriter, and artist. He's best known for producing and writing "Under The Influence" by Chris Brown, charting at number 1 on the Billboard Rhythmic Chart & number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition KDDO wrote and produced Afrobeats longest charting Billboard single "Fall" by Davido, renowned for breaking Afrobeat Music globally. The song peaked on US R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart at number 13 and US Hot R&B Songs chart at number 25 on Billboard. KDDO is the first Afrobeats producer in history to be certified by the Recording Industry Association of America, after Fall became a certified gold record in the US. He is currently managed by Christian McCurdy & Rehan Manickam at LEGION Management.

Tobechukwu Victor Okoh, known as Peruzzi, is a Nigerian singer. He began recording music after working with Rodney malice at the age of seven. Though his signing to Davido's DMW was being disputed at some point, Peruzzi is a front member of the 30 Billion Gang (30BG), a record label including Blacktycoon, Tunegee, and B-Red. Peruzzi was featured on 2Baba's single 'Amaka'.

Mayorkun was signed to Davido's record label DMW from 2016 to 2021; his debut single "Eleko" was released under the label. Mayorkun released his debut studio album The Mayor of Lagos in November 2018. After his exit from DMW in 2021; he released "Let Me Know" and his second studio album Back In Office in October 2021, under the Sony Music West Africa division.

The Mayor of Lagos is the debut studio album by Nigerian singer Mayorkun. It was released on November 16, 2018, through Davido Music Worldwide. The album's production was handled by Speroach Beatz, Cracker Mallo, Fresh VDM, Kiddominant, DJ Coublon, Phantom, Northboi, Killertunes and Lussh. Mayorkun enlisted Davido, Sarkodie, D'banj, Patoranking and other label mates to appear as guest artists on the album. Preceding the album's release were five singles: "Mama", "Che Che", "Bobo", "Fantasy" and "Posh". The album won Best R&B/Pop Album at The Headies 2019.

A Good Time is the second studio album by Nigerian singer Davido. It was released on November 22, 2019, through Davido Music Worldwide, RCA Records and Sony Music. The album features guest appearances from Chris Brown, Summer Walker, Gunna, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Dremo, Peruzzi, Popcaan, Zlatan, Yonda, Wurld and Naira Marley. Its production was handled by Speroach Beatz, Tekno, Shizzi, Kiddominant, P2J, London on da Track, and Fresh VDM, among others. In December 2019, Davido announced a North American tour in support of the album; the tour was scheduled to begin in the winter and end in spring 2020. In March 2020, Davido postponed the tour due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

A Better Time is the third studio album by Nigerian singer Davido. It was released on November 13, 2020, through Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), RCA Records and Sony Music. The album features guest appearances from Nicki Minaj, Nas, Young Thug, Mayorkun, Chris Brown, Tiwa Savage, Mugeez, CKay, Lil Baby, Hit-Boy, Sho Madjozi, Bella Shmurda and Sauti Sol. Its production was handled by Hit-Boy, Napji, Fresh VDM, Peruzzi and Speroach Beatz, among others.

Asa Asika, is a Nigerian talent manager, best known as Davido's manager, also the co-founder of The Plug and The Block Party Series.

Victony Nigerian singer and rapper

Anthony Ebuka Victor, known professionally as Victony is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper. He is from the Orsu local government area of Imo State. He was influenced while growing up by artists like Davido, Wizkid, Mi, and Falz. He is signed to a Nigerian record label called Mainland BlockParty and Jungle Records. He released a debut studio album Saturn, in August 2020. He released his first single titled Ina Benz, which was his first appearance in the music industry.

Bello Emmanuel Oluwashina is a Nigerian record producer, and musician. Known for producing Davido’s hit single “Fia” which was nominated for song of the year and best pop single at The Headies 2018 award.

Abdulsalam Suliyat Modasola well known as Liya, is a Nigerian singer, and songwriter. She came into the music scene with the release of her first single under Davido Music Worldwide, titled "Melo", shortly after signing a record deal with the label in 2020. The accompanying music video for "Melo", was released on 8 December 2020, starring Davido, and directed by Dammy Twitch for DMW. She was formerly signed to Davido Music Worldwide from 2020 to early 2023. She began releasing songs independently in 2023.

Oniyide Azeez, professionally known as Zinoleesky, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper. His rise to fame began with the launch of his debut album Chrome Eccentric featuring hit tracks like "Ma Pariwo" and "Kilofeshe.".
