Dear Dear is a 1992 album by Canadian rock band 54-40. [2]

It was their most successful album in their native Canada, spawning the hit singles "Nice to Luv You", "She La", "Music Man" and "You Don't Get Away (That Easy)". [3] Released in May 1992, the album was certified gold by September, [4] and platinum in April 1993. [5] However, Dear Dear was their first album not to have an American release after several years of not breaking through in the United States market.

The album was recorded in Tom Petty's studio in California. [6]

Including the blank space on track 11 between "Dear Dear" and the hidden track "Social Work", the album's running time when displayed on a CD player is 54:40.

The band received three Juno Award nominations at the Juno Awards of 1993, for Group of the Year, Video of the Year for "She-La", and Album Design of the Year. [7]

54-40 is a Canadian alternative rock group from Tsawwassen, British Columbia. The band take their name from the slogan "54-40 or Fight!", coined to express the unsuccessful expansionist agenda of James K. Polk's presidency, which was intent upon controlling a contested U.S.-Canada border area in the Oregon boundary dispute. 54-40 has had a successful career, with four of their albums being certified Platinum in Canada. The band has been nominated for eight Juno Awards. Between 1996 and 2016, 54-40 were among the top 150 selling Canadian artists in Canada and among the top 50 selling Canadian bands in Canada.

Hugh Syme is a Canadian Juno Award-winning graphic artist and member of the Premier Artists Collection (PAC) who is best known for his artwork and cover concepts for rock and metal bands. He is also a musician and has appeared on some Rush albums as a keyboard player. Syme is notably responsible for all of Rush's album cover art since 1975's Caress of Steel as well as creating Rush's famous Starman logo. In 1983 he told Jeffrey Morgan that he never imagined the band would use it as their main logo. Syme also plays piano on the album Thrilling Women, which Morgan recorded with Dean Motter.
