Denmark was represented by Ellen Winther, with the song '"Vuggevise", at the 1962 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 18 March in Luxembourg City. "Vuggevise" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 11 February.

Six songs had been lined up to participate in the 1962 DMGP, but "Jeg snakker med mig selv", a swing-style song to be performed by Gitte Hænning, was disqualified before the event in an exceptionally strict interpretation of pre-performance rules, when the song's composer was heard whistling the melody in the canteen of broadcaster DR. It is widely believed in Danish Eurovision circles that "Jeg snakker med mig selv" would have won that year's DMGP, and would also have done much better at Eurovision than the song which was ultimately sent.

Before Eurovision

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 1962

The DMGP was held at the Tivoli in Copenhagen, hosted by Hanne Sommer and Svend Pedersen. Five songs remained after the disqualification, with the winner chosen a by jury. It is not known how many jury members there were, nor the means by which songs were scored. Previous Danish representatives Birthe Wilke and Dario Campeotto were among the other participants. [1] Each song were performed twice. First with a big orchestra and then with a small orchestra. The winner was the song performed with the big orchestra.

At Eurovision

On the night of the final Winther performed 5th in the running order, following Austria and preceding Sweden. Each national jury awarded 3-2-1 to its top 3 songs and at the close of voting "Vuggevise" had received 2 points (1 each from Italy and Sweden), placing Denmark joint 10th (with Norway and Switzerland) of the 16 entries. The Danish jury awarded its 3 points to Sweden. [2]

Denmark was represented by the band Mabel, with the song "Boom Boom", at the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 22 April in Paris. "Boom Boom" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 25 February, and marked Denmark's return to Eurovision after an 11-year absence.

Denmark was represented by the band Bamses Venner, with the song "Tænker altid på dig", at the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 19 April in The Hague. "Tænker altid på dig" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 29 March. Other participants in the 1980 DMGP included Danish Eurovision winners Grethe Ingmann and the Olsen Brothers, and 1989 entrant Birthe Kjær.

Denmark was represented by Gry Johansen, with the song "Kloden drejer", at the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 23 April in Munich. "Kloden drejer" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 5 March.

Denmark was represented by Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann, with the song "Dansevise", at the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 23 March in London. "Dansevise" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 24 February, and went on to win the contest for Denmark in the most controversial of circumstances, when it was alleged that the Norwegian jury had altered their votes in order to hand victory to Denmark at the expense of Switzerland.

Denmark was represented by Hot Eyes, with the song "Det' lige det", at the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 5 May in Luxembourg City. "Det' lige det" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 18 February. This was the first of three Eurovision appearances in five years for the couple.

Denmark was represented by Hot Eyes, with the song "Sku' du spørg' fra no'en?", at the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 4 May in Gothenburg, Sweden. "Sku' du spørg' fra no'en?" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 9 March. This was the second consecutive Eurovision appearance for Kirsten & Søren.

Denmark was represented by Birthe Kjær, with the song "Vi maler byen rød", at the 1989 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 6 May in Lausanne, Switzerland. "Vi maler byen rød" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 25 March, a victory for Kjær after three runner-up finishes in DMGP earlier in the 1980s.

Denmark was represented by Birthe Wilke, with the song "Uh, jeg ville ønske jeg var dig", at the 1959 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 11 March in Cannes, France. "Uh, jeg ville ønske jeg var dig" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 12 February. Wilke had previously come third for Denmark in the 1957 contest in a duet with Gustav Winckler, who was one of her competitors in the 1959 DMGP.

Germany was represented by Conny Froboess, with the song '"Zwei kleine Italiener", at the 1962 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 18 March in Luxembourg City. Twelve artists and 24 songs took part in the German preselection, which consisted of four semi-finals, followed by the final on 17 February. Each show was held in a different German city.

Denmark was represented by Dario Campeotto, with the song "Angelique", at the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 18 March in Cannes, France. "Angelique" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 19 February.

Denmark was represented by Ulla Pia, with the song "Stop – mens legen er go'", at the 1966 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 5 March in Luxembourg City. "Stop – mens legen er go'" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 6 February.

Finland was represented by Marion Rung, with the song "Tipi-tii", at the 1962 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 18 March in Luxembourg City. "Tipi-tii" was chosen as the Finnish entry at the national final organised by broadcaster Yle and held on 15 February. Rung would represent Finland again in the 1973 contest, also held in Luxembourg.

Finland was represented by Laila Halme, with the song "Muistojeni laulu", at the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 23 March in London. "Muistojeni laulu" was chosen as the Finnish entry at the national final organised by broadcaster Yle and held on 14 February. Halme originally finished third in the national final, but replaced the winning singer Irmeli Mäkelä at Eurovision for unknown reasons.

Denmark participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song "Cliche Love Song" written by Lasse Lindorff, Kim Nowak-Zorde, Daniel Fält and Basim. The song was performed by Basim. In addition to participating in the contest, the Danish broadcaster DR also hosted the Eurovision Song Contest after winning the competition in 2013 with the song "Only Teardrops" performed by Emmelie de Forest. DR organised the national final Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2014 in order to select the Danish entry for the 2014 contest in Copenhagen. Ten songs competed in a televised show where "Cliche Love Song" performed by Basim was the winner as decided upon through the combination of jury voting and public voting over two rounds.
