Dennis R. Frederickson (born July 27,1939) is a Republican politician from Minnesota and a former Minnesota State Senator. He was first elected in 1980 when he ran for the seat being vacated by Senator Carl Jensen,who was appointed to the Minnesota Tax Court and did not seek re-election. He was re-elected each cycle between 1982 and 2006,receiving only one serious challenge for the position back in 1982 from former New Ulm mayor and state representative Tony Eckstein. His later re-election committees were chaired by former state senator Earl Renneke. [1]
Frederickson was born and raised on a farm in Redwood County near Morgan. He graduated from Morgan High School in 1957 and the University of Minnesota in 1961 with a B.S. degree in agricultural economics. After graduation,he spent five years on active duty in the U.S. Navy as a pilot. Following active duty,he flew in the Naval Air Reserve for three years,being honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. [1]
Frederickson returned to the family farm in 1967 and was first elected to public office in 1972 as a Redwood County Commissioner,serving eight years. He served five years on the Redwood County Nursing Home Board,four as chairman,and is a former adult 4-H leader,Sunday school teacher,local Lions Club member and past president,and State Home Economics Advisory Council member. He also served on the Redwood Electric Cooperative Board of Directors for 20 years. He has since retired from farming and moved to New Ulm. [2]
As state senator,Frederickson earned a reputation as a leader in issues relevant to environment and natural resources. [1]
Frederickson served on many Senate committees and on various relevant subcommittees. He a member of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee for 26 years and of the Environment Budget Division for 24 years. He was President Pro Tempore of the Senate from January 2007 until his retirement. [1] He also served on the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR),which made recommendations to the Minnesota Legislature on how to spend money from the Environmental Trust Fund,and on the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy.
On March 30,2010,Frederickson announced that he would not seek a tenth term in the Minnesota Senate. [3]
Frederickson is a Lutheran and has three children. [1] He was formerly a Presbyterian.
James Murray Vickerman was an American politician from Minnesota who served as Minnesota State Senator,first elected in 1986 in the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party's "firestorm" that swept southwestern Minnesota during the height of the 1980s Midwestern farm crisis. In that election,he unseated incumbent Senator Doran Isackson,winning by a substantial margin. He was re-elected in 1990,1992,1996,2000,2002 and 2006. On February 22,2010,he announced that he would not seek an eighth term,noting that he was doing so "with the satisfaction that when it's done right,our government can and does serve people." His term officially ended on January 3,2011.

Gilbert Donald Esau was a Minnesota politician and a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from southwestern Minnesota. First elected in 1962,Esau was re-elected in 1964,1966 and 1968. After sitting out for four years,he opted to run again in 1972,was elected and was re-elected in 1974,1976,1978 and 1980.
Anton Joseph "Tony" or "A. J." Eckstein was a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from southwestern Minnesota. First elected in 1970,Eckstein was re-elected in 1972,1974 and 1976. He represented the old District 17B and,later,28B,which included all or portions of Brown,Cottonwood and Nicollet counties,changing somewhat through redistricting in 1970.

Henry Joseph Kalis was an American politician who was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives,representing southern Minnesota. First elected in 1974,Kalis was reelected every two years until he opted not to seek reelection in 2002. A Democrat,he represented the old Districts 30A and 29B and,later,26B,which included all or portions of Blue Earth,Faribault,Freeborn,Martin and Waseca counties,changing somewhat through redistricting in 1980 and 1990. He was,along with senators Dennis Frederickson,Earl Renneke and Jim Vickerman,and representatives Gilbert Esau and Wendell Erickson,one of the longest-serving legislators from southern Minnesota in the state's history.

Marion "Mike" Menning is a former politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate and the Minnesota House of Representatives from southwestern Minnesota. He was first elected to the House as a representative of District 26A in 1974,served one term,and then ran successfully for the District 26 senate seat in 1976. He was re-elected to the Senate in 1980. Because of the 1980 redistricting,that term was two years in duration. He represented all or portions of Murray,Nobles,Pipestone and Rock counties.
Carl Arthur Jensen was a Minnesota politician,attorney,and veteran. Jensen served as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives and the Minnesota Senate representing part of southwestern Minnesota during the 1950s until the 1980s. Jensen was a member of the Republican Party who later switched to become a Democrat at the end of his life.
Patricia "Pat" Pariseau was an American nurse,politician,and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 36,which includes portions of Dakota,Goodhue,Scott and Washington counties in the southern Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Republican,she was first elected to the Senate in a 1988 special election held after the resignation of Senator Darril Wegscheid. She was re-elected in 1990,1992,1996,2000,2002 and 2006. Prior to the 1992 legislative redistricting,she represented the old District 37. On February 22,2010,she announced that she would not seek an eighth term.
Gen Olson is a retired teacher and Republican politician who is a former member of the Minnesota Senate representing portions of Hennepin and Wright counties in the western Twin Cities metropolitan area. She was the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota in the 1998 Minnesota gubernatorial election and also unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination in the 1994 United States Senate election in Minnesota.
Linda Higgins is a Minnesota politician who represented the second district of Hennepin County as county commissioner from late 2012 to January 2019. Higgins is a former member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 58,which included portions of the city of Minneapolis in Hennepin County,which is in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Democrat,she was first elected to the Senate in 1996,and was re-elected in 2000,2002,2006 and 2010. She served as a majority whip from 2001 to 2006. In the fall of 2011,she announced that she would not seek reelection after the current term ended in 2012. However,when Hennepin County District 2 Commissioner Mark Stenglein announced in June 2012 that he would resign,Higgins decided to run for that position. On May 20,2012,she was endorsed by the DFL party for the position,and won the election in November. In 2014,she ran unopposed and was reelected. She served as the Vice-Chair of the County Board,and Chair of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority. She retired from the county board in January 2019.

Kenneth Kelash is a Minnesota politician and former member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 63,which included portions of the city of Minneapolis in Hennepin County. A Democrat,he was first elected to the Senate in a special election held on November 4,2008. The seat became vacant when Senator Dan Larson resigned in order to accept a position with his former employer,a law and lobbying firm in Minneapolis. He was re-elected in 2010.

The 2018 United States Senate election in Minnesota took place on November 6,2018,to elect a United States Senator from Minnesota. Incumbent Democratic–Farmer–Labor U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar was reelected in a landslide,defeating Republican state House of Representatives member Jim Newberger. This election was held alongside a special election for Minnesota's other Senate seat,which was held by Al Franken until he resigned in January 2018. U.S. House elections,a gubernatorial election,State House elections,and other elections were also held.
