Department of School and Higher Education is the department of school education including primary and secondary schools in the state of West Bengal, India. This is the main authority to implement the educational policy of the Government of West Bengal. [2]

Activities

The department is the nodal body which look after various aspects of school level educations for the state having specific tasks like text book selection, formation of board and councils (West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education), inspection, recruitment of teachers (Government)/ education staff, execution of projects, language policy and schemes, preparation of teaching, training, research etc. There are also have the regular budgeting, audit programs, recognition, up-gradation of schools and legal matters. The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is an Indian autonomous examining authority, which is responsible for conducting examinations for standard XII for both government and private schools affiliated to this board. It came into existence in 1975. It is responsible for improvement and promotion of education in the state. WBCHSE conducts the West Bengal Higher Secondary Examinations each year, for which more than 8 Lakh students appear across the state.

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) is the West Bengal state government administered autonomous examining authority for the Standard 10 examination of West Bengal, India. It came into force by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education Act-1963. They conduct board exams every year. This exam is organized every February. The next exam will be held in 2025.

Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) is a holistic scheme of development for higher education in India initiated in 2013 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The centrally sponsored scheme aims at providing strategic funding to higher educational institutions throughout the country. Funding is provided by the central ministry through the state governments and union territories (UT), which in coordination with the central Project Appraisal Board will monitor the academic, administrative and financial advancements taken under the scheme. The school was founded in 1912, and is located at the northern outskirt of Kolkata, on the banks of the river Ganga. The West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education is the state government administered autonomous examining authority for affiliated and recognized madrasahs in West Bengal, India. Perhaps among the oldest post-secondary boards in India, it is the only madrasah board that is recognized by the Government of India. It is one of the parastatal organization of the Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department. The West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education is the West Bengal state government administered autonomous examining authority for the High Madrasah examination of West Bengal, India. It has come into force by the West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education Act-1994.

Howrah Shiksha Sadan Boys' School is a school located at Howrah, India. This is a boys' school and is affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education for Madhyamik Pariksha, and to the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education for Higher Secondary Examination.

The National Education Mission is an overarching programme for the school education sector extending from pre-school to class 12, launched in 2018. It was allocated a budget of 385.72 billion (US$4.5 billion) in the 2019 Interim Union Budget of India. The stated mission comprises four schemes, namely Saakshar Bharat, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan and the Centrally Sponsored Scheme on Teacher Education (CSSTE). Jaynagar Institution is a government-sponsored high school in the Jaynagar Majilpur of the South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. This is a boys' only school for the secondary and higher secondary level students. Its medium of instruction is Bengali. The institution played a key role during Bengal Renaissance period. It was once considered one of the best Bengali medium schools in the Greater Kolkata and continues to be a good one.
