Derek Gordon Schiller [1] is an American baseball front office executive. Schiller joined the Atlanta Braves organization in 2003 and has been president since 2016. Schiller was vice president of business development for the New York Yankees from 1996 to 1997.
Schiller is the son of Harvey and Marcia Schiller. He has a sister,Erika. Schiller grew up in Colorado Springs where his father worked at the United States Air Force Academy. [2] Schiller played ice hockey in high school in Colorado Springs. [3]
Schiller's father was a sports executive who held positions as chair of the United States Olympic Committee,commissioner of the Southeastern Conference,governor of the Atlanta Thrashers and an executive with several other properties owned by Ted Turner including TBS,TNT,the Goodwill Games and World Championship Wrestling. Derek Schiller graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in engineering. [4] Schiller was the director of marketing for the International Sports Plaza in Atlanta during the 1996 Summer Olympics. [1] [5] He held an executive position with the New York Yankees which he left in order to take a position with Atlanta's former National Hockey League franchise,the Atlanta Thrashers. [3] [6]
He joined the Braves in November 2003 as senior vice president of sales and marketing. Terry McGuirk,the Braves president at the time,hired Schiller to address the attendance woes the club was facing despite having a winning team. [7] Schiller was promoted to executive vice president of sales and marketing in August 2007. [4] In 2016,John Schuerholz stepped down as president of the Atlanta Braves and Mike Plant took over as president in charge of development and Schiller became the president overseeing the Braves. [8] In 2018,Schiller,who had been the team’s president of business received a new title of president and chief executive officer of the Braves. [9] He inherited responsibility for the day-to-day oversight of all business functions of the team. [9]
In 2022,Schiller was recognized by the Marietta Daily Journal as the Citizen of the Year. [10] As president of business Schiller is responsible for all forms of revenue within the Braves organization. [6]
Schiller married Kristin Lyn Lysaker on September 2,1995 at a Presbyterian church in State College,Pennsylvania. [1] They live in Atlanta with their two children. [4] He is the son of sports executive Harvey Schiller. [11]

John Boland Schuerholz Jr. is an American baseball front office executive. He was the general manager of Major League Baseball's Atlanta Braves from 1990 to 2007,and then served as the Braves president for a decade from 2007 until 2016. Before joining Atlanta,he spent 22 years with the Kansas City Royals organization,including nine (1982–1990) as the club's general manager. Among the teams he built are the 1985 Royals and 1995 Braves,both World Series champions. His teams have also won their division 16 times,including 14 consecutive times in Atlanta. During his time with the Braves,they won five National League pennants and played in nine National League Championship series. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2017.

The Slide was a baseball play that occurred in Game 7 of the 1992 National League Championship Series (NLCS) on October 14,1992,at Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta,Georgia. In 1992,the Atlanta Braves returned to the NLCS and once again defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in seven games,culminating in a dramatic game seven win. Francisco Cabrera's two-out single that scored David Justice and Sid Bream capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning that gave the Braves a 3–2 victory. It was the third time in post-season history that the tying and winning runs had scored on a single play in the ninth inning. This marked the end of the three-year divisional championship run of the Pittsburgh Pirates,who after the 1992 season lost Barry Bonds,Doug Drabek,and other key players from those championship teams. The Pirates did not have another winning season until 2013.
