With Desolate Set The Sun has been stated to incorporate elements of post-hardcore, [1] [2] [3] [4] metalcore, [1] [2] [5] electronicore, [1] [2] deathcore, [1] hardcore punk [1] [2] and southern hardcore [2] leading to them being compared to the likes of Wage War, [1] August Burns Red [1] Bring Me the Horizon, [1] Chelsea Grin [1] and Whitechapel. [1]
Father Said has been praised for its infection hooks [1] and compared to Bring Me the Horizon's Happy Song, [1] whereas The Prince has been called deathcore and praised for being "maintaining its heaviness, even when melodic". [1]
Additionally, the band have been able to mature their sound by pushing its synths into the background, improving lead guitar work and relying less on chugging. [1]

Metalcore is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Other defining instrumental qualities include heavy riffs and stop-start rhythm guitar playing, occasional blast beats, and double bass drumming. Vocalists in the genre typically use thrash or scream vocals. Some later metalcore bands combine this with clean singing, often during the chorus. Death growls and gang vocals are common. 1990s metalcore bands were inspired by hardcore while later metalcore bands were inspired by melodic death metal bands like At the Gates and In Flames.
Deathcore is an extreme metal subgenre that combines death metal with metalcore. The genre consists of death metal guitar riffs, blast beats, and metalcore breakdowns. While there are some precursors to the concept of death metal fused with metalcore/hardcore elements seen in the 1990s, deathcore itself emerged in the early 2000s and gained prominence beginning in the mid-2000s within the southwestern United States, especially Arizona and inland southern California, which are home to many notable bands and various festivals.

The White Noise was an American punk rock band from Dallas, Texas, later based in Los Angeles, California. Formed in 2009 under the name Set the Sun by guitarist and vocalist David Southern and drummer Alex Summers, the band has gone through many lineup changes. In 2013, Southern was the sole founding member and recruited vocalist Shawn Walker and guitarist Josh "KJ" Strock to form what would eventually become The White Noise.
