Dhananjay Panditrao Munde (born 15 July 1975) [2] is an Indian politician. Dhananjay Munde was in Bharatiya Janata Party as President Youth Wing (BJYM), who is currently a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) under Ajit Pawar and is a cabinet minister in Eknath Shinde government. [3] [4]

Early life

Munde was born on 15 July 1975 in Nathra, Parli Vaijnath, Beed in a Vanjari family. Munde's family consists of his mother, Rukmini Munde, wife Rajshri Munde and daughter Adishri Munde. [5]

He is related to Central Cabinet Minister Gopinath Munde whose daughters Pankaja Munde, Pritam Munde and their younger sister Yashashari are his cousins.

Political career

Munde won the 2019, 2024 assembly elections from Parli constituency. [6] He is the Guardian Minister of Beed District and the Minister of Social Justice and Special Assistance of the State of Maharashtra. [7] [8] On 24 December 2019, [9] [10] as the Minister for Social Justice and Special Assistance. [11] Earlier, he had held the role of opposition leader in the Legislative Council of Maharashtra. [12]

Controversy

In January 2021, a rape complaint was filed against Munde by singer Renu Sharma which was subsequently withdrawn. [14] [15] Munde refuted the rape allegations and dismissed opposition demands to resign. [16] In a press release, Munde claimed that he is in a relationship with Renu Sharma's sister, Karuna Sharma and even had two children out of that relationship which was known to his wife and family. [17] [18]

Devendra Sarita Gangadharrao Fadnavis is an Indian politician who is currently serving as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra since 5 December 2024, and previously held this position for two terms from 2014 to 2019. He previously served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, alongside Ajit Pawar in the Eknath Shinde government. Besides this, from 2019 to 2022, he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He was the President of BJP's Maharashtra state unit from 2013 to 2015. He became Chief Minister at the age of 44, making him the second-youngest in Maharashtra's history after Sharad Pawar.

Although a parliamentary democracy, Indian politics has increasingly become dynastic, possibly due to the absence of a party organization, independent civil society associations that mobilize support for the party, and centralized financing of elections. Family members have also led the Congress party for most of the period since 1978 when Indira Gandhi floated the then Congress(I) faction of the party. It also is fairly common in many political parties in Maharashtra. The dynastic phenomenon is seen from national level down to district level and even village level.The three-tier structure of Panchayati Raj established in the 1960s also helped to create and consolidate the dynastic phenomenon in rural areas. Apart from government, political families also control cooperative institutions, mainly cooperative sugar factories, district cooperative banks in the state, and since the 1980s private for profit colleges. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party also features several senior leaders who are dynasts. In Maharashtra, the NCP has particularly high level of dynasticism.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Pankaja Munde</span> Indian politician (born 1979)

Pankaja Munde is an Indian politician and elder daughter of the late Gopinath Munde, a former cabinet minister in India. She is the National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and also serves as an MLC in the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Popularly, she is known as 'Pankaja Tai'. She is currently serving as Cabinet Minister for Animal Husbandary, Environment and Climate change in the Third Fadnavis ministry.

Pritam Gopinath Munde is an Indian politician and doctor who was previously a Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha from Beed. She is the second daughter of late BJP leader Gopinath Munde. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she emerged as a victorious candidate by defeating Bajrang Manohar Sonwane of Nationalist Congress Party by a margin of 1.68 lakh votes. However, her sister Pankaja Munde stood for that seat in the 2024 Lol Sabha elections and lost to Sonwane.

Beed railway station is an upcoming railway station in Beed district, Maharashtra. Its code is BEED. It will serve Beed city. The station consists of one platform. The work on this rail line is expected to be finished year 2023.
