Didžiasalis is a linear village in the Ignalina eldership, Lithuania. It is located about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from Ignalina near the IgnalinaŠvenčionys road. It is situated within the Sirvėta Regional Park. According to the 2011 census, it had 71 residents. [1]

Ignalina Town in Aukštaitija, Lithuania

Ignalina is a town in eastern Lithuania, famous for the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant in nearby Visaginas. It is said that Ignalina name got its name from Ignas and Lina, two lovers with quite popular Lithuanian names. According to the 2011 census, it had 6,007 residents, to 2017 census - 5,260 residents

History

Due to its archaic architecture, the village is an ethnocultural reserve, which includes 42 homesteads and 25 individually protected buildings. The village is situated along one street. Homesteads have irregular plans, some of which are located on both sides of the street. Houses are mostly double-ended; barns often have side barns; granaries have hip or half-hip roofs. [2]

Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant nuclear power plant

The Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant is a closed two-unit RBMK-1500 nuclear power station in Visaginas Municipality, Lithuania. It was named after the nearby city of Ignalina. Due to the plant's similarities to the failed Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in both reactor design and lack of a robust containment building, Lithuania agreed to close the plant as part of its accession agreement to the European Union. Unit 1 was closed in December 2004. The remaining Unit 2 which counted for 25% of Lithuania's electricity generating capacity and supplied about 70% of Lithuania's electrical demand, was closed on December 31, 2009. Proposals have been made to construct a new nuclear power plant at the same site.

Palūšė Village in Aukštaitija, Lithuania

Palūšė is a tourist village in the Aukštaitija National Park in eastern Lithuania. It is located south-west of Ignalina. The church of Palūšė, built in 1750, is considered to be the oldest surviving wooden church in Lithuania. The church is constructed from wood and was built without using nails, only with saws and axes. It was featured on the one litas banknote. According to the 2011 census, it had 83 residents. Lithuania singer and composer Mikas Petrauskas was born in Palūšė.

Zervynos is an ethnographic village in the Varėna district, Lithuania. It is situated within the territory of the Dzūkija National Park near the Ūla River. The Saint Petersburg – Warsaw Railway runs through this village. Zervynos has 48 homesteads; 8 homesteads and 32 separate buildings are officially declared ethnographic monuments. The village was among the sites short-listed for nomination for the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Though the village is isolated by the Dainava Forest, it is a busy place during summer as tourists kayaking in the Ūla River pass through the settlement.

Parker 13-Sided Barn is an officially registered historic barn nestled in the hamlet of Jefferson in Schoharie County, New York. It is located on State Route 10 between Harpersfield and Stamford. The barn has a long and colorful history, built in 1896 and one of only two 13-sided barns listed in the National Register of Historic Places in this area of New York state.

The Theron Boyd Homestead is a historic farm property on Hillside Road in Hartford, Vermont. The centerpieces of the 30-acre (12 ha) property are a house and barn, each built in 1786. The house, little altered since its construction, is one of the finest early Federal period houses in the state. The property is owned by the state, which has formulated plans to open it has a historic site. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
