Aleona Denise "Dindin" Santiago Manabat (born Aleona Denise Antonio Santiago September 26, 1993) is a Filipino volleyball player. [1] She played in the UAAP during her collegiate years for the NU Lady Bulldogs and started her professional career in the Philippine Super Liga as the first overall pick in the 2014 season for Petron Blaze Spikers.

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), established in 1938, is an athletic association of eight Metro Manila universities in the Philippines. The eight member schools are Adamson University (AdU), Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), Far Eastern University (FEU), National University (NU), University of the East (UE), University of the Philippines Diliman (UP), and University of Santo Tomas (UST). Varsity teams from these universities compete annually in the league's 28 events from 15 sports to vie for the overall championship title, namely, badminton, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, chess, fencing, football, judo, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Personal life

Santiago was born on September 26, 1993, the third of five siblings.[ citation needed ] Her brother (Axel Leonard Santiago, a former champion of men's volleyball player in National University "NU Bulldogs" of UAAP Season 75) is currently working in PLDT and her older sister is working in Dubai, while she and her sister, Alyja Daphne "Jaja" Santiago, both played for the women's volleyball in different leagues. Her father, Jojo Santiago, was a former basketball player while her mother, Alma Antonio, is a caregiver in Israel. [2]

She is married to basketball coach Chico Manabat. [3]

Career

Santiago won the SVL 10th Season 1st, Conference won the Conference Most Valuable Player award, [4] the SVL 10th Season 1st, Conference Conference Most Valuable Player and Best Server. [5] She has also won the SVL 11th Season, 1st Conference Conference Most Valuable Player award [6] and the 2014 PSL Grand Prix 2nd Best Middle Blocker individual award. [7]

The Shakey's V-League 10th Season: 1st Conference is the eighteenth conference of Shakey's V-League, a collegiate women's volleyball league in the Philippines founded in 2004. The opening ceremonies was held on April 7, 2013 with the first doubleheader of volleyball games at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan. There are three new teams who are participating in this season, they are the Arellano University Lady Chiefs, De La Salle University - Dasmariñas Lady Patriots, and the University of San Carlos - Cebu Lady Warriors. This three new teams will face the seven current participating teams like ADMU, AdU, UST, NU, SSC-R, UPHSD and CSJL.

The Shakey's V-League 11th Season: 1st Conference is the 19th conference of Shakey's V-League, a collegiate women's volleyball league in the Philippines founded in 2004. The opening ceremonies was held on March 23, 2014 with the first doubleheader of volleyball games at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan. There are 12 teams competing this including the join forces of all the top selected players from Davao in one team and the debut of St. Louis University of Baguio. Also, the return of Arellano, Adamson, Ateneo, FEU, San Sebastian, CSB, NU, Perpetual, SWU, and UST. This is league's first time to have 12 participating schools to battle for the championship, and first to have a school representing Mindanao region.

The 2014 PSL Grand Prix was the second tournament of the Philippine Super Liga for its 2014 season. The tournament ran from October 18, 2014 to November 30, 2014. The tournament's major sponsor was Asics. FIVB Referees Commission director Mohammed Hassan was the guest of honor of the opening ceremony held in Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

She started her rookie collegiate volleyball career with the UST Golden Tigresses, before transferring to National University. After being transferred from UST to the NU Lady Bulldogs, Santiago played for two seasons as the team captain. She is one of the Guest Player especially in Championship match against Cagayan Valley Lady Rising Suns during the 10th Season of Shakey's V - League in the 2013 Open Conference as Smart-Maynilad Net Spikers finished in the second place. She is one of the Guest Player especially in Battle for Bronze match against Philippine Air Force Air Spikers during the 11th Season of Shakey's V - League in Open Conference as she helped PLDT Home Telpad Turbo Boosters to win the match.

The UST Growling Tigers is the varsity team of the University of Santo Tomas that plays in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. Formerly called the Glowing Goldies, the name has been changed starting with the 1992–93 season.

Her first professional team, where she was the first draft pick for the 2014 season with Petron Blaze Spikers [8] [9] and debuted in the 2014 All-Filipino Conference of the Philippine Super Liga (PSL). [10] In early December 2015, Santiago took a leave of absence from the sport because of her pregnancy. [11]

The 2014 PSL Season was the second season of the Philippine Super Liga (PSL). There were two conferences for the season – the All-Filipino and the Grand Prix – for both women’s and men’s division.

The 2014 PSL All-Filipino was the first tournament of the Philippine Super Liga for its second season. The tournament began ran from May 16, 2014 to July 26, 2014. The tournament's major sponsor was PLDT Home DSL.

Philippine Super Liga Professional volleyball league in the Philippines

The Philippine Super Liga is the first professional corporate club volleyball league in the Philippines. It is organized by SportsCore Event Management and Consultancy, Inc. The league is envisioned to provide former collegiate players a league with which they can continue with their volleyball career.

First joined as a guest player during the 11th Season, 3rd Conference of the Shakey's V-League. [12] On August 18, 2016, Santiago announced that she will join the Foton Tornadoes for the 2016 PSL Grand Prix Conference, playing alongside her sister, Jaja. [13] She won the bronze medal in the 2017 PSL Grand Prix Conference with the Foton Tornadoes. [14] She is set to play in the Japan V.League for Toray Arrows. [15]

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas is a Filipina professional volleyball player. She was a Shakey's V-League (SVL) three-time Finals and two-time Season Most Valuable Player.
