PopMatters called the album "yet another extraordinary piece of work that raises the proverbial bar once again ... this isn't just experimental; it's genuinely catchy." [1]
The Village Voice wrote: "Diotima is the kind of album that requires multiple listens, possibly alternating between headphones and speakers, to absorb. Assaultive at first, it gradually blooms: The guitar lines separate, and the intricate ebb and flow of the rhythm section... becomes more and more clear." [7]
The editors of AllMusic awarded the album a full 5 stars, and Phil Freeman called it "the group's best work to date." He wrote: "Krallice... aren't all that interested in preserving black metal in the amber of tradition. They're taking what they like from the genre and amplifying its power by adding elements from prog rock and minimalism, then stretching the songs to extraordinary length... in order to push the listener toward cathartic transcendence. At their best, they're an overwhelming sonic force." [4]
Pitchfork's Grayson Haver Currin commented: "Unapologetically extreme and intense, it's the most relentless album from a hyper-dexterous band that's never been one to take it easy... Diotima forgoes the long-short-long tack of previous Krallice efforts, creating marathons out of marathons that demand complete attention and destroy attention spans." [6]

Boris is a Japanese band formed in 1992 in Tokyo and composed of drummer Atsuo, guitarist/bassist Takeshi, and guitarist/keyboardist Wata. All three members contribute vocals. Their work has drawn variously on styles such as sludge metal, drone, noise, psychedelia, and minimalism. Boris has released more than 20 studio albums on various labels around the world, as well as a variety of live albums, compilations, EPs, singles, and collaborative albums. They have collaborated with acts such as Sunn O))), Merzbow, Keiji Haino, and guitarist Michio Kurihara.
Colin Marston is an American record producer and musician residing in New York City. He graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music technology in 2004, and owns Menegroth The Thousand Caves Recording Studios in Woodhaven, Queens while not on tour with one of a number of bands. He is also known for his performances in Behold... The Arctopus, Dysrhythmia, Krallice, and the reunion lineup of Gorguts. Marston has produced, mastered, and mixed music for artists such as Imperial Triumphant, Cleric, Genghis Tron, Kayo Dot, Jarboe, Capillary Action, Origin, Panopticon, Altar of Plagues, Liturgy, Pyrrhon, and Orthrelm, as well as for his own bands. Marston is multi-instrumentalist; he plays guitar, bass and keyboards.
Krallice is an American black metal band formed by New York City musicians Colin Marston, Mick Barr, Nick McMaster and Lev Weinstein. They play an experimental, highly technical style of black metal. The band has released fourteen studio albums and three EPs, most recently the LP Mass Cathexis 2 - The Kinetic Infinite on December 1, 2023. Love & Evol is the twenty-fifth studio album by Japanese experimental band Boris, released 4 October 2019 on Third Man Records. The band describes the release as two distinct but interconnected works, bearing the titles LφVE and EVφL respectively, "encapsulating conflicting connotations that interweave and become intricately entangled with one another, gradually eroding before becoming utterly singular." The release was intended to illustrate the different extremes of the sounds Boris has explored previously in their discography, and as a counterpoint to their darker and more aggressive previous album Dear.
