The DVD includes five music videos of select songs from the CD. A second compilation focusing on songs from Disney Channel Original Movies was released the following year.

Stuck in the Suburbs is a Disney Channel Original Movie. It was released on July 16, 2004, and stars Danielle Panabaker as Brittany Aarons and Brenda Song as Natasha Kwon-Schwartz. Brittany, a regular middle school student in the suburbs, accidentally exchanges cell phones with pop singer Jordan Cahill. This was one of the first Television films by Disney which was also accompanied by its own soundtrack. The film gathered 3.7 million viewers which made the film the most-watched telecast in its time period in the kids 6–11 and 9–14 demographics. The film's soundtrack entered the U.S. Billboard 200 and peaked at #5 on the Billboard Top Kid Audio charts.

It includes some of the most popular female Disney artists and girl groups like The Cheetah Girls, as well as former Disney-turned-mainstream acts such as Hilary Duff, Aly & AJ, Lindsay Lohan and Raven-Symoné. The album was released on June 7, 2005. A follow-up to this album was released in 2008.

The songs here are used as scores in the series, and some songs inspired by the show. The voice actress for the title character, Christy Carlson Romano, sings a song for the soundtrack, as well as a rap from Ron Stoppable and Rufus. There are various artists on the soundtrack including Aaron Carter and Smash Mouth. Walt Disney Records released a second "Kim-Proved" version of the soundtrack on March 22, 2005.

Released on November 16, 1999 by Hollywood Records, at least one song from a Disney Channel film released at the time is represented on the compilation, with the exception of Halloweentown. Despite the implications of the title, no direct follow-up volumes were released, until a very similar compilation, Disney Channel Hits: Take 2 (2005), was released over five years later.
