The 2016 European Aquatics Championships took place from 9 to 22 May 2016 in London, United Kingdom, in the London Aquatics Centre. It was the thirty second edition of the event, and the second held in the same year as a Summer Olympics. Hosts Great Britain headed the medal table for the second successive event; although their swimming return was slightly down, partly down to a small number of star names resting prior to Rio, the gap was made up by an outstanding performance in the diving pool.

Diving competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 10 to 13 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. Due to naming rights the arena were known as the latter for the duration of the games. Due to Pan American Games being scheduled to be held roughly around the same time as the 2015 World Aquatics Championships scheduled for Kazan, Russia, the diving begin on the day of the opening ceremony. Gabriela Belem Agúndez Garcia is a Mexican diver. She represented Mexico at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan in the individual 10 metre platform and synchronized 10 metre platform, winning a bronze medal.

Jonathan Ruvalcaba is a Mexican-born Dominican diver. He won a bronze medal representing Mexico during the 2015 Pan American Games and silver at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games. He also went to the 2009, 2011 and 2015 World Aquatics Championships representing Mexico.
