Diwan Singh Chachowalia was a Bhangi Sikh sardar and warlord who was the governor of Multan between 1772 and 1780 on the behalf of his half-brother Jhanda Singh.

Diwan Singh was a son of Hari Singh Dhillon and half-brother of Jhanda Singh and Ganda Singh. Multan,which had been under Durrani rule since 1752,had been embroiled in a state of political unrest after Timur Shah Durrani deposed its governor Shuja Khan in April 1772 and appointed Haji Sharif Khan. However,due to his indolence he was deposed as well and Sharif Beg Taklu was appointed to Multan. Shuja Khan,who had previously retired to his newly built fort of Shujabad,besieged Multan with the assistance of Jafar Khan,the Nawab of Bahawalpur. [1]
In exigency Sharif Beg called for the help from Bhangi Sardars. The siege had already gone on for eighteen days by the time they arrived;the forces of Bahawalpur were defeated and Shuja Khan fled to Shujabad. After capturing Multan,the Sikhs allowed Sharif Beg to retire with his family to Tulamba,while Diwan Singh was appointed Multan's governor in December 1772. [2]
Diwan Singh besieged Shujabad thrice but was unsuccessful in conquering it. Meanwhile Shuja Khan died in 1776 and was succeeded by his son Muzaffar Khan. Muzaffar Khan asked for help from Timur Shah against him who invaded Punjab and captured Multan from Diwan Singh on February 18,1780. However,he allowed Diwan Singh to depart safely with his family,and Muzaffar Khan was appointed the next governor of Multan. [3]
Diwan Sawan Mal was a Sikh Empire-era administrator who served as governor (Diwan) of Multan from 1820 to 1844.
Hari Singh Nalwa was the commander-in-chief of the Sikh Khalsa Fauj,the army of the Sikh Empire. He is known for his role in the conquests of Kasur,Sialkot,Attock,Multan,Kashmir,Peshawar and Jamrud. Hari Singh Nalwa was responsible for expanding the frontier of Sikh Empire to beyond the Indus River right up to the mouth of the Khyber Pass. At the time of his death,Jamrud constituted the western boundary of the Empire.
Hari Singh Dhillon was an 18th century Sikh warlord and the chief of Bhangi Misl. During the formation of the Dal Khalsa he was acknowledged as leader of Tarna Dal,and made chief of Bhangi Misl following the death of Bhuma Singh Dhillion,who he was an adopted son of,in 1748. Hari Singh made the Bhangi Misl the most powerful of all the Misls. He has been described as a brave,fearless and great warrior. Under Hari Singh the Bhang Misl expanded to Jammu,Lahore,Chiniot,Buria,Jagadhari,Firozpur,Kushab,Majha,Malwa,Sandal Bar and Jhang.
Jhanda Singh Dhillon was a chief of Bhangi Misl. Under his leadership the Dhillon family became the dominant de facto ruling power of Punjab. His father was Hari Singh Dhillon,one of the most powerful Sikh warriors of the time. He also had a warrior brother Ganda Singh Dhillon. Jhanda Singh appointed his younger brother Ganda Singh as the commander in chief of the forces. Jassa Singh Ramgarhia was one of the closest friends of Jhanda Singh.
Diwan Mokham Chand was one of the chief commanders of the Sikh Empire. He conquered Attock from the Durrani Afghans in 1813 and subdued the Rajputs in the Hills of Himachal and in Jammu at Jasrota,Chamba,and Basroli. He also commanded one of the early Sikh expeditions to conquer Kashmir that ended in failure due to bad weather blocking the passes to the valley. Mokham Chand was born in a Hindu Khatri family.
The KanhaiyaMisl was one of the twelve misls of the Sikh Confederacy. It had been founded by Sandhu Jats.
Sardar Charat Singh,also romanised as Charhat Singh,was the founder of Sukerchakia Misl,father of Mahan Singh,and the grandfather of Ranjit Singh,the first Maharaja of the Sikh Empire. He distinguished himself at an early age in campaigns against Ahmad Shah Abdali and along with 150 horsemen split from the Singhpuria Misl to establish the Sukerchakia Misl,a separate grouping with its distinct guerilla militia.
The Battle of Attock took place on 13 July 1813 between the Sikh Empire and the Durrani Empire. The battle was the first significant Sikh victory over the Durranis.

Adina Beg Khan was a Punjabi general,administrator,and statesman who served as the Nawab of Punjab from April 1758 until his death in September of the same year. After serving through various posts,he was appointed as the Subahdar of the entirety of Punjab by Raghunath Rao on behalf of Rajaram II and later recognised as the Nawab by Emperor Alamgir II during the power vacuum in 1758,earning him the title Zafar Jang Bahadur.
Timur Shah Durrani,also known as Timur Shah Abdali or Taimur Shah Abdali was the second ruler of the Afghan Durrani Empire,from November 1772 until his death in 1793. An ethnic Pashtun,he was the second eldest son of Ahmad Shah Durrani.
Nawab Muzaffar Khan was the last Afghan governor of Multan.
Ahmad Shah Durrani,the founder of the Durrani Empire,invaded Indian subcontinent a total of eight times between 1748 and 1767,following the collapse of Mughal Empire in the mid-18th century. His objectives were met through the raids and deepened the political crisis in India.
The Battle of Rohtas took place somewhere in December 1779,between Timur Shah Durrani and the Bhangi Misl. Timur Shah consolidated his rule through multiple attempts,and also attempted an earlier invasion in 1775,however realizing the weakness of his army in view of smaller in number,Timur Shah retired to Peshawar which proceeded with rebellion by Faizullah Khan,who plotted to assassinate Timur Shah but was cunningly executed. In late 1779,Timur Shah decided to conquer Multan.
Shuja Khan was the Durrani governor of Multan between 1767 and 1772.
The siege of Multan started in January 1780 and ended on 18 February 1780,it was the result Timur Shah Durrani's reconquest campaigns of Multan after it had been taken in 1772. This siege saw the Afghans successfully re-capture Multan after taking Rohtas months prior.
