The Donegal Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Donegal GAA clubs. The County Final is usually played at O'Donnell Park in Letterkenny.

Burt are the title holders, defeating Setanta by 3-16 to 1-18 in the 2024 final. [1]

History

Burt hold the most SHC titles of any club in the country (40), having passed out Waterford Senior Hurling Championship club Mount Sion's total of 35 a few years ago.[ citation needed ]

Format

Group stage

The 8 teams are divided into two groups of four. Over the course of the group stage, each team plays once against the others in the group, resulting in each team being guaranteed at least three games. Two points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. The teams are ranked in the group stage table by points gained, then scoring difference and then their head-to-head record. The top two teams in each group qualify for the knockout stage.

Knockout stage

Semi-finals: The two group winners and the two runners-up from the group stage contest this round. The two winners from these games advance to the final.

Final: The two semi-final winners contest the final. The winning team are declared champions.

Donegal Intermediate Hurling Championship

Semi-finals: The two group third placed teams and the two group third placed teams from the group stage contest the Intermediate championship. The two winners from these games advance to the Intermediate final.

Final: The two semi-final winners contest the final. The winning team are declared Intermediate champions.

Relegation

There is currently no direct relegation to the Donegal Junior Hurling Championship.

Qualification

At the end of the championship, the winning team qualify to the subsequent Ulster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship.

Joe 'Dodo' Winston was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for St Eunan's and the Donegal county team.

Conor Parke is a dual player. He plays Gaelic football and hurling for St Eunan's, as well as hurling for the Donegal county team.

Burt GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Burt, County Donegal, Ireland. The club fields teams in hurling, Gaelic football, camogie and Ladies' Gaelic football.

The 2023–24 All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship was the 20th staging of the All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's junior inter-county club hurling tournament. The draws for the respective provincial championships took place at various stages. The championship ran from 28 October 2023 to 13 January 2024.

The 2024 Donegal Senior Hurling Championship was the 89th staging of the Donegal Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cavan County Board in 1908. The championship ran from 14 June to 31 August 2024.

The 2024–25 All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Championship is the 20th staging of the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's intermediate inter-county club hurling tournament. The championship is scheduled to run from 26 October 2024 to January 2025.

Ronan McDermott is an Irish hurler. At club level he plays with Burt and at inter-county level with the Donegal senior hurling team.
