Downlands Community School is a maintained comprehensive for pupils aged 11 to 16. It has about 1200 pupils. In October 2022, Ofsted inspected the school and reported that the school was 'good' in all areas. ^[1]

The school is currently over capacity by over 55 students as of 22 January 2025 ^[2]

Location

The school is in the West Sussex village of Hassocks, and has a new maths block, a sports hall ^[3] and a generation three AstroTurf open air training pitch. ^[4] The sports hall and astroturf pitch are managed, on behalf of the school, by Freedom Leisure and are used by the local community after school hours. ^{[5] [6]}

Staff and governors

The current headteacher of the school is Mr Mark Wignall and the chair of governors is Diana Hunt.

Academic achievement

In 2016 the school achieved 76% of pupils with the equivalent of five or more GCSEs grade C or above including English and Maths. ^{[7] [8]}
