The Afrikaans Language Monument is located on a hill overlooking Paarl, Western Cape Province, South Africa. Officially opened on 10 October 1975, it commemorates the semicentenary of Afrikaans being declared an official language of South Africa separate from Dutch. Also, it was erected on the 100th anniversary of the founding of Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners in Paarl, the organisation that helped strengthen Afrikaners' identity and pride in their language. The monument was used as a filming location for the twelfth series of Doctor Who.
Charl (Sarel) Arnoldus Cilliers was a Voortrekker leader and a preacher. With Andries Pretorius, he led the Boers to a huge victory over the Zulus at the Battle of Blood River in 1838. In particular, Cilliers led the Voortrekkers in a vow which promised that if God would protect them and deliver the enemy into their hands, they would build a church and commemorate the day of their victory as if it were an annual Sabbath day, which their descendants would also be instructed to honour.

After matriculation in 1991 at Hoërskool Florida, Johannesburg, he studied philosophy at the University of the Witwatersrand where he finished his honors degree. He changed his name to Victor S. Wolf and claimed that Riku Lattii was "dead." Since then he composed the complete film score for Jans Rautenbach's film "Abraham", on which he was credited as Riku Lätti, thereby being effectively resurrected.

Beside a 16th-century manuscript in the German language written with Arabic script, it is the only Germanic language known to have been written in the Arabic script.

The school was founded in 1996 with the aim of "preparing pupils in all fields to stand out as full citizens in society and to provide high-quality education and education in the most affordable way to pupils." In 2013, the school had about 250 students from grades 1 through 12 taught by 19 teachers. There were also two secretaries. The school has hostel facilities where learners can live in a safe environment and warm domestic atmosphere.
