eSkootr Championship (eSC) is an electric scooter racing series which launched its first season in 2022. Races take place in several city centre locations across the world. [2] [3] The series was conceived by motorsport entrepreneur Hrag Sarkissian and former racing driver Khalil Beshir. Lucas Di Grassi served as sustainability ambassador, while Alexander Wurz had the role of safety ambassador. [4] Swiss rider Matis Neyroud won the first race. The series has been announced to return for a second season in 2024/25. [5]

S1-X eSkootr

Developed especially for the series with help from Italian motorsports engineering and lightweight composites company Ycom, [6] the S1-X eSkootr, which all riders race with, is able to reach speeds of more than 100 km/h with a lean of greater than 50 degrees. [7] They include twin 6 kW motors and a battery developed by Williams Advanced Engineering with a capacity of 1.33kWh. [8]

Calendar

For eSC's inaugural season, six rounds were originally announced, with the first in London in May 2022. The championship was scheduled to remain in Europe before finishing in the United States in October. [9]

Before the third planned race in Italy, the remaining races were postponed [10] before it was announced that the season would conclude with a double-header event at Circuit Paul Ricard near Marseille, [11] moving the competition to a purpose-built racing circuit for the first time.

The London race was staged at multi-purpose venue Printworks London in the east of the city. [12]

The riders' championship was won by Aymard Vernay [13] while Nico Roche Racing won the teams' championship.

Teams and riders

Riders for the series were professional athletes from a range of sporting backgrounds, including existing racing disciplines within motorsports and BMX as well as freestyle scooters plus ones as varied as figure skating (Jordan Rand) and snowboarding (Billy Morgan). They were a part of the eSC Draft. [14] Similar to the NFL style draft in America, these riders were be selected in rotation by the teams.

The confirmed teams were Carlin, [15] Helbiz, [16] Nico Roche Racing Team, [17] Murphy Prototypes, [18] SICK! Series Racing (owned by Fabio Wibmer), [19] 27X by Nico Hulkenberg [20] and 258 Racing (owned by Anthony Joshua). [21]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nico Hülkenberg</span> German racing driver (born 1987)

Nicolas Hülkenberg is a German racing driver who drives for the Haas F1 Team in Formula One. He was the 2009 GP2 Series champion, and is a previous champion of both the Formula 3 Euro Series and A1 Grand Prix, as part of A1 Team Germany. He is one of six drivers since 2005 to win the GP2 Series/Formula 2 championship in his debut season. Outside of Formula One, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015 on his first attempt and also contested two rounds of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship season for Porsche.

Formula BMW was a junior racing formula for single seater cars. It was positioned at the bottom of the motorsport career ladder alongside the longer established Formula Ford category. Like Formula Ford, it was intended to function as the young kart racing graduate's first experience of car racing.

The 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series season was the fifth championship year of Europe’s premier Formula Three series. As in previous years, the championships took place over ten rounds – each with two races – held at a variety of European circuits. Each weekend consisted of one 60-minute practice session and one qualifying session, followed by one c.110 km race and one c.80 km race. The single qualifying session was retained from 2006, with the starting order for race 2 being determined by the finishing order of race 1, with the top eight positions reversed. This season was notable for the return of Volkswagen as an F3 engine supplier. The drivers' title was won by Romain Grosjean and the teams' title was again won by ASM Formule 3. It was the fourth double title win in succession for ASM. The top four drivers in the championship would go on to race in Formula 1: Sébastien Buemi, Kamui Kobayashi and champion Grosjean all debuted in F1 in 2009 and Nico Hülkenberg in 2010.

Reiter Engineering GmbH & Co Kg, commonly known simply as Reiter Engineering, is a German racing team and racing car manufacturer established in 2000 by motorsport engineer Hans Reiter.

The 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series season was the sixth championship year of Europe's premier Formula Three series. The season was dominated by 21-year-old German Nico Hülkenberg, who won seven of the season's ten feature races amassing 76 of his total of 85 championship points on Saturday afternoons. He won the championship by 35.5 points from early frontrunner Edoardo Mortara as the 2007's rookie cup winner's season somewhat tailed off after the Norisring, scoring just 9.5 points in the final twelve races compared to Hülkenberg's 60. Jules Bianchi's strong finish to the season, including a win in the final race at Hockenheim and coupled with Renger van der Zande's fifth place and Mika Mäki's ninth place, it allowed the 2008 Ultimate Masters winner to finish third in the championship, a point ahead of both van der Zande and Mäki.

The 2008–09 GP2 Asia Series season was the second season of the GP2 Asia Series. It began on 18 October 2008 and ended on 26 April 2009 and consisted of eleven races at six events.

The 2009 GP2 Series season was the forty-third season of the second-tier of Formula One feeder championship and also fifth season under the GP2 Series moniker. The season consisted of twenty races at ten rounds, beginning on 9 May at the Circuit de Catalunya and finishing on 20 September at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. The Algarve circuit hosted its first GP2 weekend, and was the only new circuit on the calendar.
