The Annales school is a group of historians associated with a style of historiography developed by French historians in the 20th century to stress long-term social history. It is named after its scholarly journal Annales. Histoire, Sciences Sociales, which remains the main source of scholarship, along with many books and monographs. The school has been influential in setting the agenda for historiography in France and numerous other countries, especially regarding the use of social scientific methods by historians, emphasizing social and economic rather than political or diplomatic themes.
The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, formerly the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, is the oldest natural science research institution and museum in the Americas. It was founded in 1812, by many of the leading naturalists of the young American republic with an expressed mission of "the encouragement and cultivation of the sciences". It has sponsored expeditions, conducted original environmental and systematics research, and amassed natural history collections containing more than 17 million specimens. The Academy also organizes public exhibits and educational programs for both schools and the general public.
Northeast Africa, or Northeastern Africa, or Northern East Africa as it was known in the past, encompasses the countries of Africa situated in and around the Red Sea. Ephraim Avigdor Speiser was a Polish-born American Assyriologist and translator of the Torah. He discovered the ancient site of Tepe Gawra in 1927 and supervised its excavation between 1931 and 1938.

Published in Philadelphia, the Hispanic Review is the oldest peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to research in Hispanic, Catalan, Gallego and Luso-Brazilian literature and culture published in North America. The journal has been published continuously since 1933. Following a recommendation of the Modern Association of America, the journal was created in 1933 to replace the French journal Revue Hispanique that had just stopped publication.
American Studies (AMSJ) is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal which covers issues broadly concerning American culture, history, literature, and politics through international perspectives. Stephen Owen is an American sinologist specializing in Chinese literature, particularly Tang dynasty poetry and comparative poetics. He taught Chinese literature and comparative literature at Harvard University and is James Bryant Conant University Professor, Emeritus; becoming emeritus before he was one of only 25 Harvard University Professors. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
Acadiensis: Journal of the History of the Atlantic Region is a semi-annual peer-reviewed academic journal covering the history of Atlantic Canada. The current editors-in-chief are Erin Morton and Peter Twohig. It is published by the Department of History at the University of New Brunswick, with articles in either English or French. The name Acadiensis originated with an earlier periodical with the same name, a general interest quarterly magazine for the Maritime provinces, with an emphasis on local history. It was published in Saint John, New Brunswick by David Russell Jack from 1901 to 1908 but failed due to insufficient financial support.
Texas Studies in Literature and Language, commonly known as TSLL, is a peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to the humanities. It publishes essays reflecting a variety of critical approaches and all periods of literary history, with selected issues centering on special topics. Founded in 1911 as Studies in English, it was subsequently issued as The University of Texas Studies in English (1949-1956) and Texas Studies in English (1957-1958) before assuming its current name. It remains "one of the oldest, if not the oldest, scholarly journals of its kind in North America."

Founded in 1884, it is the oldest Catholic historical society in the United States. The goal of the society is to collect, research, and maintain historical records relating to the contribution of the Catholic Church to American society and culture.

The McNeil Center for Early American Studies (MCEAS) is an independent research institute based at the University of Pennsylvania. MCEAS was established in 1978 to support basic research on early American history and cultures. MCEAS defines “early America” chronologically as the era between 1492 and 1850 A.D. and has a particular commitment to the North American mid-Atlantic, but is known as a premier research institute for the study of early modern North America generally. The Center publishes a peer-reviewed journal, Early American Studies, and a monograph series of the same name, both with the University of Pennsylvania Press.
