In 1890 Edgerton High School was at the center of a controversy about the separation of church and state, resulting in the landmark "Edgerton Bible Case." [2]

Sports

Edgerton High School won the Class B state baseball championship in 1990, defeating Luxemburg-Casco 1–0 in the title game.

Harold Eugene Edgerton American engineer and inventor

Harold Eugene "Doc" Edgerton, also known as Papa Flash was a professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is largely credited with transforming the stroboscope from an obscure laboratory instrument into a common device. The Gideons International organization

Gideons International is an evangelical Christian association founded in 1899 in Wisconsin. The Gideons' primary activity is distributing copies of the Bible free of charge. This Bible distribution is a worldwide enterprise taking place in around 200 countries, territories and possessions. The association's members focus on distributing complete Bibles, New Testaments, or portions thereof. These copies are printed in over 100 languages. The association is most widely known for its Bibles placed in lodging rooms. The Gideons also distribute to hospitals and other medical offices, schools and colleges, military bases, as well as jails and prisons. The association takes its name from the Biblical figure Gideon depicted in Judges 6.

Winifred Edgerton Merrill American mathematician

Winifred Edgerton was born in Ripon, Wisconsin. She was the first woman to receive a degree from Columbia University and the first American woman to receive a PhD in mathematics. She was awarded a PhD with high honors from Columbia University in 1886, by a unanimous vote of the board of trustees, after being rejected once.

The district recently built a three-court field house and a 599-seat performing arts center. Both are connected to the high school. Edgerton's varsity baseball team won the state championships in 1990. The volleyball team also went undefeated and won the conference championship in 2008.

The Edgerton Bible Case was an important court case involving prayer in public schools in Wisconsin. In the early days of Edgerton, Wisconsin, it was common practice for public school teachers to read aloud from the King James Bible to their students. In 1886, Roman Catholic parents protested this practice to the school board, citing their belief that the Douay version of the Bible was the only correct translation for their children.
