Edward Mark W Bennett (born 9 April 1979) is an English actor.
Bennett was born in Honeybourne, Worcestershire. He attended Chipping Campden School in Gloucestershire, and graduated from Cardiff University with a BSc in history and politics. He attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). [1]
In 2008, Bennett appeared as Laertes in Hamlet , Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream , and Berowne in Love's Labour's Lost . He reprised the first two roles when the productions toured London's Novello Theatre from December 2008 to February 2009, understudying for Hamlet and performing the role from 8 December 2008 until 2 January 2009 whilst David Tennant was undergoing surgery for a spinal injury. [2]
In 2014, Bennett was appointed the Patron of Chapel Lane Theatre Company based in Stratford-Upon-Avon, UK. [3]

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) is a major British theatre company, based in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England. In theatre, an understudy, referred to in opera as cover or covering, is a performer who learns the lines and blocking or choreography of a regular actor, actress, or other performer in a play. Should the regular actor or actress be unable to appear on stage, the understudy takes over the part. Usually when the understudy takes over, the theater manager announces the cast change prior to the start of the performance. Coined in 1874, the term understudy has more recently generally been applied only to performers who can back up a role, but still regularly perform in another role.

The Ian Charleson Awards are theatrical awards that reward the best classical stage performances in Britain by actors under age 30. The awards are named in memory of the British actor Ian Charleson, and are run by the Sunday Times newspaper and the National Theatre. The awards were established in 1990 after Charleson's death, and have been awarded annually since then. Sunday Times theatre critic John Peter (1938–2020) initiated the creation of the awards, particularly in memory of Charleson's extraordinary Hamlet, which he had performed shortly before his death.
