With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats and loudness.
Darkthrone is a Norwegian extreme metal band from Kolbotn, Akershus. Formed in 1986 as a death metal band named Black Death, in 1991 Darkthrone embraced a black metal style influenced by Bathory and Celtic Frost and became one of the leading bands in the Norwegian black metal scene.
Immortal is a Norwegian black metal band from Bergen. The group was founded in 1991 by frontman and guitarist Abbath Doom Occulta and guitarist Demonaz Doom Occulta. The pair worked with various drummers, and were later joined by former drummer Horgh in 1996.

Antestor is a Norwegian Christian extreme metal band formed in 1990 in Jessheim. Credited for starting the northern European Christian black metal scene, Antestor is the only Christian band to have an album released by Cacophonous Records, which has also released records by bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Sigh, and Cradle of Filth. The band's only release on Cacophonous, The Return of the Black Death, proved influential for the Christian black metal movement, and has sold over 10,000 copies.

Thulsa Doom is a Norwegian heavy metal band. It takes its name from the Robert E. Howard character. This is not to be mistaken for the New York crust punk band with the same name that existed from 1998–2000.

The Cumshots were a death 'n' roll band from Norway. The band was formed in 1999 by Kristopher Schau and Ole Petter Andreassen. The band released four albums, and were known for their violent live performances where members of the band regularly suffered fractures and lacerations, as seen on the cover of Norwegian Jesus. One concert featured an on-stage sex act between two members of the 'eco porn' action group Fuck for Forest.
Gartnerlosjen is a Norwegian rock n' roll band known for their peculiar lyrics. Among the more prominent members of the band are vocalist Kristopher Schau, guitarist and vocalist Lars Lønning, and bassist and vocalist Egil Hegerberg. The band was formed in Oslo in 1987, and has been mostly inactive since 1996.
Drottnar is an extreme metal band from Fredrikstad, Norway. Formed in 1996, the band has released four albums, Spiritual Battle (2000), Welterwerk (2006), Stratum (2012) and Monolith (2019) and an EP titled Anamorphosis (2003). The first album was released on UK label Plankton Records. They are currently signed to Swedish label Endtime Productions.

Wig Wam is a Norwegian glam metal band formed in Halden in 2001. Wig Wam's lineup—consisting of vocalist Glam, guitarist Teeny, bassist Flash and drummer Sporty —has remained unchanged since the band's formation. The band's style mixes glam metal and hard rock with humorous lyrics and imagery. The band had their international breakthrough in 2005 when they represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest held in Kyiv and placed ninth with the song "In My Dreams". Wig Wam split up in 2014, but reunited in 2019. The band enjoyed further fame in 2022 when James Gunn chose their song "Do Ya Wanna Taste It" as the opening theme for the HBO Max show Peacemaker. "In My Dreams" was also featured in the Peacemaker soundtrack. Wig Wam has released five studio albums. The band's slogan is: "Rock is the new schläger".
El Cuero is a Norwegian rock group formed in Kristiansund by brothers Håvard and Brynjar Takle Ohr in 2005. As of 2017, they have released five studio albums, one live album and an EP.
Henning Solvang is a Norwegian rock musician and member of the rock bands Thulsa Doom and Brut Boogaloo. Henning is now a teacher at "Hauketo skole" in Oslo, Norway, teaching history, geography and music. He is well known in the Norwegian rock community. He has been a member of several rockbands since 2001, and has been a collaborator on 12 albums with several bands. Henning has played in the well known Øyafestivalen in Norway in 2008. He got good reviews from NRK when playing with Brut Boogaloo for their new album Dirty Living. During the Norwegian music contest, Melodi Grand Prix the competition that decides which person or band who will be nominated for Eurovision Song Contest, Henning was a member of the national jury with 50% power to decide, along with the votes of the country.
Rolf Graf was a Norwegian singer, bass guitarist, composer and record producer, and the younger brother of keyboardist Haakon Graf and the jazz singer Randi Elisabeth Graf. He is best known as the bassist in the band Lava, but was also recognized as music producer, musician and songwriter for other artists like Randy Crawford, Mezzoforte and Sissel Kyrkjebø. He also released three solo albums and was editor of the journal "Musikkpraksis".
Kåre Christoffer Vestrheim is a Norwegian record producer, musician and composer from Sarpsborg, Norway. He plays guitar and keyboards. He is also the co-founder of Propeller Recordings, which has released albums for the artists Hanne Hukkelberg, Superfamily, Katzenjammer, Moddi, Team Me and Highasakite. He has also composed film scores for Norwegian pictures.
"The Doomed" is a song by American rock band A Perfect Circle. The song was first released as a single on October 16, 2017. It is the band's first single since 2013's "By and Down" for their greatest hits album Three Sixty, and was the lead single for their fourth studio album, Eat the Elephant. It peaked at number 16 on the Billboard US Mainstream Rock Songs chart in November 2017.
