"Eight Ways is hard to pinpoint as far as its status of enjoyment goes because its melding of unconventionalities with dynamic clichés is frankly remarkable. Think what you may, you've never heard something like this before. [...] Madder Mortem is without doubt a black sheep in the metal scene, and that's just how it should be because not everyone can appreciate such rare flowers."

"Their fifth studio album, 'Eight Ways,' is the type of album that takes a few listens to sink in, but once it does, the result is one of deep satisfaction.
[...] The band has a tendency to jam a lot of content into one song, and with the average song length being over five minutes, the first listen may not sink in all the sharp turns taken with the songwriting. The transition from smooth jazz to harsh guitar tones and screaming vocals may prove to be jarring in the beginning, but as time goes on, everything starts to click and the album begins to make sense, piece by piece, minute by minute." Tristania was a Norwegian gothic metal band formed in 1996 by Morten Veland, Einar Moen and Kenneth Olsson. Tristania's music is usually classified as Gothic metal with death influences, due to its strong tie and legacy within the gothic metal history. Their songs largely dealt with dark and sentimental topics, including depression, sadness, suicide, love, absence, and anger.
Madder Mortem is a Norwegian progressive metal band. They were originally formed by siblings Agnete and BP M. Kirkevaag in 1993 as a doom metal/gothic metal band as Mystery Tribe, but changed the name to Madder Mortem in 1997.
Deadlands is the third studio album by Norwegian metal band Madder Mortem, released on Century Media Europe on 21 October 2002. Released in the US on The End Records, 11 February 2003. It was the final CD to be released by them on Century Media Records. The band have since signed to Peaceville records.
