Einar Halle (born 29 December 1943) [1] is a Norwegian former football referee who also represented Molde FK as a player. He officiated 187 matches in Tippeligaen, in addition to 130 matches as a UEFA referee. He has later been a referee observer.

Career

Halle hails from Molde and was a promising goalkeeper in his youth. He played 50 matches for Molde FK's first team between 1962 and 1964. He landed on his head during a match against Skarbøvik, and was in hospital for two days. [2] This injury ended his career in Molde FK, but he continued his career as a goalkeeper in lower leagues for Træff and Rival. [3]

Halle started refereeing after his career as player in Molde FK ended, and continued to represent Molde FK as a referee. [2] Halle became a national referee in 1970, and officiated 187 matches in Tippeligaen between 1973 and 1993. [3] He was a part of Molde FK's board, but was told in 1975 that he had to resign from his position by the Norwegian FA. [2] Halle officiated the Norwegian Football Cup final in 1980 between Vålerenga and Lillestrøm, [4] and the final between Fredrikstad and Viking in 1984 [5] and was one of the first referees to have officiated two Norwegian Cup finals. Halle became an UEFA referee in 1980 and officiated approximately 130 matches across Europe for the next 11 years, [3] including the quarterfinal of the 1986–87 UEFA Cup between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Vitória de Guimarães [6] and the 1990 World Cup qualifier between England and Albania at old Wembley Stadium. [7]

In a match between Austria Wien and Werder Bremen, Halle blew his whistle for half time even though the match had only elapsed for 40 minutes, because he forgot that the match was postponed for five minutes. He realized his mistake before the players entered the changing rooms, and the teams resumed playing. After this incident, Halle was called "Halbzeit Halle" (half-time Halle) by his referee-colleagues. Halle has admitted that clubs tried to bribe him and his colleagues ahead of European matches during the 1980s, but insisted that neither he, nor any of the Norwegian referees that he travelled with, ever accepted the bribes. In 1995, Halle became a referee-observer for UEFA, and his first match as an observer was the match between Juventus and Manchester United. The UEFA Women's Champions League match between Standard Liège and Turbine Potsdam on 26 September 2012, was his last as a referee-observer. [3]

Hussain transferred to Molde in mid-2012 and won the Tippeligaen in his first season at the club. The 2013 Tippeligaen was the 69th completed season of top division football in Norway. The competition began 15 March 2013 and ended on 10 November 2013, when Strømsgodset defeated Haugesund 4–0 to win their second league title.

The final was contested by Hødd and Tromsø and took place on 25 November 2012 at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, in front of a crowd of 24,217. This was Tromsø's third final, and they had won the two previous finals in 1986 and 1996, while the Norwegian First Division side Hødd played their first final ever.

The 1994 Norwegian Football Cup final was the 89th final of the Norwegian Football Cup. It was played on 23 October 1994 at Ullevaal Stadion, in Oslo, Norway. The final was contested between Molde and Lyn. Molde won the game 3–2 and won their first title. This was Molde's 3rd cup final, while Lyn traveled to Ullevaal for the 13th time. The winner earned a place in the 1995–96 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

Molde Fotballklubb is a football club from Molde, Norway. It was established in 1911 as International by a group of people gathered by Klaus Daae Andersen. After permission was granted, it took the current name and joined the league system in 1928. Until 1937, Molde played in regional leagues, after numerous promotions and relegations. Since 1930, the team has played in the Norwegian Football Cup. In 1939, the club joined the third season of the League of Norway, the top division, but the break-out of the World War II caused a halt to all organized sports and thus this season was never completed.

The 1994 season was Molde's seventh season in the second tier of Norwegian football since 1963, the first since their last promotion to the first tier in 1983. This season Molde competed in 1. divisjon and the Norwegian Cup.

The 1982 Norwegian Football Cup final was the 77th final of the Norwegian Football Cup. The final took place at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo on 24 October 1982. SK Brann were in their 9th final, while Molde were in their first ever final and therefore had the chance to win the first major trophy in the club's history.
