History
El Centinela was first published in 1903 by Brenton E. Connerly in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, under the name El Centinela de la Verdad ("The Sentinel of the Truth"). It moved to Panama in March 1909 where it joined with the magazine Caribbean Watchman. It ceased publication when a fire burned the building on March 23, 1911.
In July 1919 Pacific Press took over its publication, initially as a quarterly magazine, it became a monthly in 1920. The first director was Ernesto J. Johnson.
At times El Centinela has been published in Puerto Rico, Panama, California, USA, and most recently Idaho.
The Millerites were the followers of the teachings of William Miller, who in 1831 first shared publicly his belief that the Second Advent of Jesus Christ would occur in roughly the year 1843–1844. Coming during the Second Great Awakening, his beliefs were taken as predictions, spread widely, and believed by many, leading to the Great Disappointment.

The Antillean Adventist University (AAU) (UAA) is a private, Seventh-day Adventist university in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system. The university developed from the merging of two educational institutions: Puerto Rico Academy established in 1946; renamed in 1957 as the Colegio Adventista Puertorriqueño, and Antillian College which moved to Puerto Rico as a result of the Cuban Revolution. In 1989, the school's higher education program was accredited by the Council of Higher Education of Puerto Rico on August 18, 1989.

It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system. It is named after the late Herbert L. Fletcher who was a church leader and educator within the Division for half a century. He was a past president of West Indies College.
