Perumbavoor is a historic place located at Bank of Periyar in Ernakulam District in the Indian state of Kerala. It is a part of the Kochi metropolitan area It lies in the north-eastern tip of the Greater Cochin area and is also the headquarters of Kunnathunad Taluk. Perumbavoor is famed in the state for wood industries and small-scale industries. Ernakulam lies 30 km southwest of Perumbavoor. Pinarayi Vijayan is an Indian Communist politician who is the current Chief Minister of Kerala,serving since 25 May 2016. A member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist),he is the longest-serving secretary of the Kerala State Committee of the CPI(M) (1998–2015). He also served in the government of Kerala as Minister of Electric Power and Co-operatives from 1996 to 1998. Vijayan won a seat in the May 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly election as the CPI(M) candidate for Dharmadom constituency and was selected as the leader of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and became the 12th Chief Minister of Kerala. He is the first chief minister from Kerala to be re-elected after completing a full term in office.

The then Minister of Home Affairs of Kerala,Kodiyeri Balakrishnan,made a statement that while government is aware that there is a local Dar-ul Khada set up by the Popular Front of India under the supervision of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board,functioning to resolve civil disputes,there were no complaints received that it was passing "Taliban-model" orders.
Benny Behanan is an Indian politician from Kerala. He is a member of the Indian National Congress party who serves as Member of Parliament from Chalakudy. He was the MLA of Thrikkakara Legislative Assembly Constituency from 2011 to 2016. He was the General Secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee for 17 years. Earlier he had won Piravom in 1982,and unsuccessfully contested the Idukki Parliament Constituency as UDF Candidate to the Lok Sabha in 2004. Malekudy Joseph Antony,better known as Antony Perumbavoor is an Indian film producer,distributor,cinema exhibitor and actor,who works in Malayalam film industry. He began his career as a chauffeur to Mohanlal in 1987 and started appearing in brief roles in Malayalam films in 1990s. In 2000,he established the film production house Aashirvad Cinemas,which exclusively produces Mohanlal films. Antony owns the multiplex theatre chain Aashirvad Cineplexx and co-owns the film distribution company Maxlab Cinemas and Entertainments. He is the president of Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK).

Sabarimala Railway is a proposed 111 kilometres (69 mi) railway line from Angamaly to Erumeli,near Sabarimala that had been sanctioned in the year 1998 by Indian Railways. According to a memorandum of understanding signed between the Kerala State and the Ministry of Railways on 27 January 2016,commercially viable railway projects will be identified and handed over to the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be fast-tracked on a 51:49 per cent equity basis. SPV has discussed the extension to Punalur. The currently proposed Sabarimala railway is under PMO - Proactive government and timely implementation (Pragati);will be monitored by the Prime Minister's Office. The proposed railway line will be a great relief to the transportation problems faced by Idukki,Kottayam,and Pathanamthitta districts.Railways have agreed to start the project as soon as Kerala Rail Development Corporation gives the revised estimate for the project.
