Elijah H. Mdolomba was a South African politician and reverend. He was the Secretary-General of the African National Congress from 1930 to 1936. [1] [2]
Mdolomba was born in the Cape Colony and received his education at Healdtown. He became an ordained reverend. [3]
In the 1920s, Mdolomba served at the helm of the African National Congress in the Cape Colony. He went on to serve as Secretary-General of the ANC, and was succeeded by James Calata. [1]
The Union of South Africa was the historical predecessor to the present-day Republic of South Africa. It came into existence on 31 May 1910 with the unification of the Cape, Natal, Transvaal, and Orange River colonies. It included the territories that were formerly a part of the South African Republic and the Orange Free State.

Elijah Eugene Cummings was an American politician and civil rights advocate who served in the United States House of Representatives for Maryland's 7th congressional district from 1996 until his death in 2019, when he was succeeded by his predecessor Kweisi Mfume. The district he represented included over half of the city of Baltimore, including most of the majority-black precincts of Baltimore County, and most of Howard County, Maryland. A member of the Democratic Party, Cummings previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1983 to 1996.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions is a trade union federation in South Africa. It was founded in 1985 and is the largest of the country's three main trade union federations, with 21 affiliated trade unions.
Lord Charles Henry Somerset PC, born in Badminton, England, was a British soldier, politician and colonial administrator. He was governor of the Cape Colony, South Africa, from 1814 to 1826.
William Henry Andrews was the first chairman of the South African Labour Party (SALP) and the first General Secretary of the Communist Party of South Africa. He was also active in the formation of the Industrial and Commercial Workers' Union.
The Congress of the People (COPE) is a South African political party formed in 2008 by former members of the African National Congress (ANC). The party was founded by former ANC members Mosiuoa Lekota, Mbhazima Shilowa and Mluleki George to contest the 2009 general election. The party was announced following a national convention held in Sandton on 1 November 2008, and was founded at a congress held in Bloemfontein on 16 December 2008. The name echoes the 1955 Congress of the People at which the Freedom Charter was adopted by the ANC and other parties, a name strongly contested by the ANC in a legal move dismissed by the Pretoria High Court.
Masizole Mnqasela is a South African politician, formerly the 7th Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. He was previously a Member of Parliament with the Democratic Alliance from 2009 to 2014, the Shadow Minister of Home Affairs, and the country's third youngest parliamentarian after the African National Congress's Mduduzi Manana, and the Congress of the People's Luzelle Adams.

James Arthur Calata was a South African priest and politician. He was the Secretary-General of the African National Congress from 1936 to 1949. He was appointed a canon of the Grahamstown Cathedral making him the first Black canon in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.
The history of libraries in South Africa had its start with libraries formed for private use which later were made available for the general public. In 1761, the most extensive of these early private collections, owned by Joachim von Dessin, the secretary of the Orphan Chamber, was left to the Cape consistory of the Dutch Reformed Church specifically to form the basis of a public library for the advantage of the community.

Cameron Muir Dugmore is a South African politician who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. A member of the African National Congress, he has been serving as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since 2014. He previously served in the provincial parliament from 1994 to 2009. He served as the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport from 2008 to 2009, and as the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Education from 2004 to 2008.
Nqabayomzi Lawrence Saziso Kwankwa is a South African politician from the Eastern Cape. He has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the United Democratic Movement (UDM) since August 2013. He is the deputy president of the UDM and the party's chief whip.
Pemmy Castelina Pamela Majodina is a South African politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly since 2019. A member of the African National Congress, she is the party's chief whip in the assembly. She was formerly a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature between 2004 and 2019 and a Member of the provincial Executive Council for five different portfolios from 2008 to 2019, respectively. Majodina was a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from 1994 to 2004.
Ndumiso Capa is a South African politician from the Eastern Cape who has served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2014, representing the African National Congress, the ruling party in South Africa.
Dingaan Jacob Myolwa is a South African politician from the Eastern Cape who is a Member of the National Assembly for the African National Congress (ANC). He was appointed to parliament in 2021. Myolwa had previously served as a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2013 to 2014 and before that, as mayor of the OR Tambo District Municipality.
Nolitha Ntobongwana is a South African educator and politician. She currently serves as the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure in the National Assembly. A member of the African National Congress, she has been a Member of Parliament since 2019. Ntobongwana had previously served in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature.
