The Emerging Markets Forum (EMF) is an accredited non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to developing dialogue on economic, financial, and social issues facing emerging market economies. EMF advocates for increased dialogue between government and corporate leaders through its global forum events. [1] Its motto is "Bringing people together to accelerate growth and well-being in emerging markets."

History

The Emerging Markets Forum was founded in 2005 by the leaders of Centennial Group International. The president and CEO of the Emerging Markets Forum is Harinder Kohli, the forum manager is Sylvie Naville, the deputy forum manager is Charlotte Hess, the manager of information analytics is Harpaul Alberto Kohli, Dana Sleeper handles social media and websites, Gautam Kaji is chairman of the board, and P.R. Narvekar is founding director. [2] The co-chairmen of the forum are Michel Camdessus, former Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund and now honorary governor of the Central Bank of France, Haruhiko Kuroda, president of the Asian Development Bank, and Fidel V. Global and Regional Forum Events

The EMF hosts one global meeting and several regional meetings every year. Each meeting is structured around issues that are common to emerging market economies. The EMF commissions policy experts to write background papers, which provide a starting point for forum discussions. Participants come from both the private and public sectors to engage in open dialogue and implement solutions that will benefit emerging market economies. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]

Past events have taken place in Jakarta, Vietnam, Mumbai, Hanoi, Bogota, Montevideo, Oxford, Switzerland, Morocco, South Africa, and other locations. [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] Topics of interest at meetings include infrastructure, financial systems and the financial crisis, corruption and governance, climate change, global imbalances, public-private partnerships, and decoupling, among others. Sitting or former heads of state who have been participants include President Joseph Deiss (Switzerland), President Álvaro Uribe (Colombia), President Carlos Mesa (Bolivia), Prime Minister Fakhruddin Ahmed (Bangladesh), President José María Figueres (Costa Rica), President Horst Koehler (Germany), President Benjamin Mkapa (Tanzania), co-chair of the EMF President Fidel Valdez Ramos (Philippines), and Prime Minister Paul Martin (Canada).

Other participants include Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (former World Bank managing director, former foreign minister of Nigeria, and Euromoney Finance Minister of the Year), Arun Shourie (Indian Parliament and former minister of telecommunications, commerce and privatization), [17] Johannes F. Linn (Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution; senior resident fellow, Emerging Markets Forum; and former vice president for Europe and Central Asia of the World Bank.), [18] Indian Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, [19] former US Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, and the FT's Martin Wolf.

Fidel V. Ramos 12th president of the Philippines (1992–1998)

Fidel Valdez Ramos, popularly known as FVR and Eddie, is a retired Filipino general and politician who served as the 12th president of the Philippines from 1992 to 1998. He is the only career military officer who reached the rank of five-star general/admiral de jure who rose from second lieutenant up to commander-in-chief of the armed forces. During his six years in office, Ramos was widely credited and admired by many for revitalizing and renewing international confidence in the Philippine economy. At age 93, he is currently the oldest living former Philippine president.

Boao Forum for Asia

The Boao Forum for Asia, initiated by 25 Asian countries and Australia, is a non-profit organisation that hosts high-level forums for leaders from government, business and academia in Asia and other continents to share their vision on the most pressing issues in this dynamic region and the world at large. BFA is modelled on the World Economic Forum held annually in Davos, Switzerland. Its fixed address is in Bo'ao, Hainan province, China, although the Secretariat is based in Beijing. The forum, sometimes known as the “Asian Davos”, takes its name from the town of Boao, located in China's southern Hainan province, which has been the permanent venue for its annual conference since 2002.

Montek Singh Ahluwalia Indian economist and civil servant

Montek Singh Ahluwalia is an Indian economist and civil servant who was the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India, a position which carried the rank of a Cabinet Minister. He tendered his resignation for this post in May 2014 following the impending end of the UPAII regime at the center. He was previously the first Director of the Independent Evaluation Office at the International Monetary Fund.

BRIC Group of four emerging national economies (not the same as BRICS)

BRIC is a grouping acronym which refers to the countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China deemed to be developing countries at a similar stage of newly advanced economic development, on their way to becoming developed countries. It is typically rendered as "the BRIC," "the BRIC countries," "the BRIC economies," or alternatively as the "Big Four". The name has since been changed to BRICS after the addition of South Africa in 2010.

Economy of India National economy of India

The economy of India is a middle income developing mixed economy. It is the world's sixth-largest economy by nominal GDP and the third-largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on a per capita income basis, India ranked 145th by GDP (nominal) and 122th by GDP (PPP). From independence in 1947 until 1991, successive governments promoted protectionist economic policies, with extensive state intervention and economic regulation. This is characterised as dirigism, in the form of the License Raj. The end of the Cold War and an acute balance of payments crisis in 1991 led to the adoption of a broad economic liberalisation in India. Since the start of the 21st century, annual average GDP growth has been 6% to 7%, and from 2013 to 2018, India was the world's fastest growing major economy, surpassing China. Historically, India was the largest economy in the world for most of the two millennia from the 1st until the 19th century.

G20 International forum of 19 countries and the EU

The G20 or Group of Twenty is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union (EU). It works to address major issues related to the global economy, such as international financial stability, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development.

Raghuram Rajan Indian economist and former governor of Reserve Bank of India

Raghuram Govinda Rajan is an Indian economist and the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Between 2003 and 2006 he was Chief Economist and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund. From September 2013 through September 2016 he was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India; in 2015, during his tenure at the RBI, he became the Vice-Chairman of the Bank for International Settlements.

Confederation of Indian Industry Industry association in India

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is a non-governmental trade association and advocacy group headquartered in New Delhi, India, founded in 1895.

Gunjan Bagla is an Indian-American author, blogger, businessman, and public speaker. He is the founder and managing director of Amritt Ventures, a consulting firm based in Malibu, California, and a charter member of The Indus Entrepreneurs. He received his bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, and is currently the president of the Institute's Alumni Association. He also earned an MBA with honours from Southern Illinois University.

Housing in India varies from palaces of erstwhile maharajas to modern apartment buildings in big cities to tiny huts in far-flung villages. There has been tremendous growth in India's housing sector as incomes have risen.

The Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence are the awards conferred by The Economic Times in the field of business, corporate and government policies, economies in India. It is an annual awards, conferred in various categories. Since 2017, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP (Deloitte) has been the title sponsor of the awards. The 2018 leg of the awards will be held on 22 November in Mumbai.

Presidency of Fidel Ramos

The presidency of Fidel V. Ramos, also known as the Ramos administration spanned for six years from June 30, 1992, to June 30, 1998. At the time of his assumption into power, Fidel Ramos was the third oldest person following Sergio Osmeña to become president of the Philippines at the age of 64. He is also the first Protestant President of the country and the only Filipino officer in history to have held every one hundred rank in the Philippine military from Second Lieutenant to Commander-in-Chief. The first few years of his administration (1992–1995) were characterized by economic boom, technological development, political stability and efficient delivery of basic needs to the people. During his time, he advocated party platforms as outline and agenda for governance. As in his case, he was the first Christian Democrat to be elected in the country, being the founder of Lakas-CMD. He was one of the most influential leaders and the unofficial spokesman of liberal democracy in Asia.

The Centre for India & Global Business (CIGB) is a research center was launched in March 2009 as part of Cambridge Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge, England, to support the university's growing engagement with India. As a research centre and an engagement platform CIGB is dedicated to the study of India's rapidly expanding role in the global knowledge economy.

Amritt

Amritt Ventures is a global management consulting firm based in the Los Angeles area. The stated purpose of the company is to aid North American and European firms in becoming familiar with routine Asian business practices, specifically in marketing their products to India and China, both of which are BRIC countries. Amritt has recently been ranked as one of the Top 10 Consulting Companies of India. Their executives have contributed to various financial magazines, including BusinessWeek and advised both US companies and the US president on doing business with India. Notable clients of Amritt include Kraft Foods, Johnson & Johnson, the British company Reckitt Benckiser, and the French media conglomerate Vivendi.

Horasis is an independent, international think tank, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. Founded in 2005, by Frank-Jürgen Richter, former director of the World Economic Forum, Horasis is dedicated to the innovation and development of sustainable emerging markets. The annual Horasis Global Meeting in Cascais, Portugal, is a gathering of business people with government officials, scientists and intellectuals centered on issues concerning corporations and societies.

Pavan Sukhdev Indian environmental economist (born 1960)

Pavan Sukhdev is an Indian environmental economist whose field of studies include green economy and international finance. He was the Special Adviser and Head of UNEP's Green Economy Initiative, a major UN project suite to demonstrate that greening of economies is not a burden on growth but rather a new engine for growing wealth, increasing decent employment, and reducing persistent poverty. Pavan was also the Study Leader for the ground breaking TEEB study commissioned by G8+5 and hosted by UNEP. Under his leadership, TEEB sized the global problem of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation in economic and human welfare terms, and proposed solutions targeted at policy-makers, administrators, businesses and citizens. TEEB presented its widely acclaimed Final Report suite at the UN meeting by Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Nagoya, Japan.

Gunjan Sinha

Gunjan Sinha is an Indian-American entrepreneur and business executive. He is the Executive Chairman of MetricStream. He is also best known as the founder of WhoWhere?, an internet search engine he sold to Lycos in 1998. He is also the co-founder of customer engagement software provider eGain Corporation. He has served on the board of numerous Silicon Valley startups including Regalix, OpenGrowth, DesignEverest.

Syeda Saiyidain Hameed is an Indian social and women's rights activist, educationist, writer and a former member of the Planning Commission of India. She chaired the Steering Committee of the Commission on Health which reviewed the National Health Policy of 2002, till the dissolution of the body in 2015, to be replaced by NITI Aayog.

Indian foreign aid is the aid given by the Indian government to other governments. India's major quantum of foreign aid is given to neighbouring countries. According to India's budget in 2021-22, it's direct overseas aid stood at 18,154 crore (US$2.4 billion). That apart, India also extended a direct line of credit worth $30.66 billion dollars to several foreign countries for developmental projects. The way of providing a much larger share of aid in the form of concessional loans is quite similar to that of China. India has setup 'Indian Agency for Partnership in Development', as a part of Ministry of External Affairs (India) to channelize aid to recipient nations.
