Club career

Gokulam Kerala

Born in Kerala, Emil Benny made his first professional appearance for Gokulam Kerala FC on 9 January 2021 as a 86th-minute substitute. [1]

At the 2022 AFC Cup group-stage opener, Benny and his side achieved a historic 4–2 win against Indian Super League side ATK Mohun Bagan. [2] [3]

NorthEast United

On 20 August 2022, NorthEast United announced the signing of Benny from Gokulam Kerala on a multiyear deal . [4] He made his debut for the club on 2 September against Sudeva Delhi in Durand Cup and won the match in 2–0 scoreline. [5]

Gokulam Kerala Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Kozhikode, Kerala. Founded in 2017, the club competes in the I-League, the second tier of Indian football league system. They won the 2020–21 I-League title to become the first ever club from Kerala to do so, and became the first team to defend the league title in 2021–22. Gokulam is also the first and so far the only club from the state to qualify for a continental competition, AFC Cup, in 2022.

The 2022 Durand Cup, also known as IndianOil Durand Cup due to sponsorship ties with Indian Oil Corporation, was the 131st edition of the Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia, and also the first edition since it was supported by the Asian Football Confederation. This year for the first time the tournament was played in more than one venue. The tournament is hosted by the Durand Football Tournament Society in co-operation with the AIFF, Eastern Command of the Indian Armed Forces and the Government of West Bengal, supported by the governments Assam and Manipur.

The 2022–23 season is Gokulam Kerala's sixth season since its establishment in 2017 and their fifth season in the I-League. In addition to the I-League, Gokulam Kerala also participated in the Super Cup and IFA Shield.

The 2022 IndianOil Durand Cup group stage was played from 16 August to 5 September 2022. A total of 20 teams, consisting 11 ISL clubs, 5 I-League clubs and 4 Indian Armed Forces teams, competed in the group stage to decide the 8 places in the knockout stage.

The 2022–23 season is the fifth season in Indian professional football club Rajasthan United FC's existence, and their 2nd season in I-League. In addition to the I-League, Rajasthan United will also participate in the Durand Cup and the Super Cup.
