Emily Abbot (born 28 February 1997) [1] is an Australian group rhythmic gymnast who represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics. [1]
Emily Abbot was born on 28 February 1997 in Adelaide. She began rhythmic gymnastics when she was ten years old. [2] She graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2018 and is currently studying business at TAFE Queensland. She now lives in Brisbane and works as a disability support carer in addition to her gymnastics training. [3]
Abbot missed the 2016 season due to hip injuries. She first had a hip arthroscopy to repair a detached ligament, but then doctors discovered a bone tumor in her hip and she had another surgery to remove it. She returned to competition at the end of 2017. [4]
In October 2018, Abbot moved to Brisbane to train with Australia's senior rhythmic gymnastics group. [4] At the 2018 World Championships, she finished twenty-ninth with her group. [5] She represented Australia at the 2019 Summer Universiade. [6] She finished seventh in the group all-around, [7] seventh in the 5 balls final, [8] and fifth in the 3 hoops + 4 clubs final. [9]
She won a gold medal at the 2021 Oceanic Championships with the Australian senior group and qualified a quota for the 2020 Olympic Games. She was selected to represent Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics alongside Alexandra Aristoteli, Alannah Mathews, Himeka Onoda, and Felicity White. [10] They were the first rhythmic gymnastics group to represent Australia at the Olympics. [11] They finished fourteenth in the qualification round for the group all-around. [12]
Gymnastics at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo was held in three categories: artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampolining. All gymnastics events were staged at the Olympic Gymnastic Centre, Tokyo in 2021.
Linoy Ashram is an Israeli individual rhythmic gymnast. Nina Derwael is a Belgian artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic champion, a two-time World champion, and a two-time European champion on the uneven bars, the 2019 European Games champion on the balance beam as well as a two-time Belgian national all-around champion. She is the first Belgian gymnast to medal at the World Championships, the first to become a World champion, and the first to become a European champion. She represented Belgium at the 2016 Summer Olympics and at the 2020 Olympics. At the 2020 Olympics, she led Belgium to a first-ever team final where Belgium finished 8th. She also qualified for the all-round final where she ended 6th overall and for the uneven bars apparatus finals competition where she won the gold medal, the first of any colour for a Belgian woman in the sport at the Olympic Games.
Lara Mori is an Italian artistic gymnast who represented Italy at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She is the 2018 Mediterranean Games champion in the all-around, on the floor exercise, and with the Italian team. She is the 2019 Summer Universiade silver medalist on the balance beam and bronze medalist with the team.
Ekaterina Olegovna Vedeneeva is a Russian individual rhythmic gymnast competing for Slovenia since 2018. She made her debut for Slovenia in August 2018 at the World Cup event in Kazan, Russian Federation. On national level, she is a two-time Slovenian National All-around champion.
