Endre Granat (born in Hungary in August 3, 1937) is an American violinist. He is regarded as the most recorded violinist and concertmaster working in the studios today. [1]
Granat studied at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington and the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. Granat is a former Fulbright Scholar.
His teachers included Gyorgy Garay, Josef Gingold and Jascha Heifetz.
In 1962 Endre Granat won first prize at the International Competition in Heidelberg and he was a 1967 prize winner of the Queen Elizabeth International Competition in Brussels. [2] He performs on an Italian "Domenicus Montagnana" 1721 violin.[ citation needed ]
Granat is a former assistant concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra, concertmaster of the Goteborg Symphony Orchestra, and concertmaster of the Pacific Symphony. He is a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition and a recipient of the Ysaye Medal. [3] Granat has been a frequent participant of the Marlboro Music Festival and the Casals Festival.[ citation needed ]
A former Fulbright scholar, he has taught at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Goteborg, the Cleveland Institute of Music, California State University at Northridge, and the University of Southern California. [3]
Granat is noted for his Urtext editions of violin concerti by Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn and Henryk Wieniawski as well as The Essential Sevcik. Granat is editor for the Heifetz Collection that include urtext editions of Heifetz' favorites as well as the Urtext Edition of Paganini 24 Caprices and THE HEIFETZ SCALE BOOK.[ citation needed ]
For many years one of the leading concertmaster for the Hollywood film industry, he was the leader for Miklos Rozsa, Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, James Newton Howard, Henry Mancini, Hans Zimmer and a host of others. Granat was the concertmaster of numerous awards ceremonies of the Academy Awards, the Emmy Awards and the Grammy Awards. [4] He has over 2,800 motion pictures and thousands of television shows to his credit.
Granat has toured and recorded with numerous artists, including Earth, Wind, and Fire, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Barbra Streisand, Yanni, Natalie Cole, Dionne Warwick, and Ricky Martin.[ citation needed ]
He was concertmaster for many recording studios that made soundtracks for films, including Ghostbusters (1984), Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco (1996), Starship Troopers (1996), Anna and the King (1999), Legally Blonde (2001), The Bourne Identity (2002), Star Trek: Nemesis (2002), Dreamcatcher (2003), Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003), The Last Samurai (2003), Peter Pan (2003), The Terminal (2004), Transformers (2007), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007), The Simpsons Movie (2007), and Frozen (2013).[ citation needed ]
Jascha Heifetz was a Russian-American violinist, widely regarded as one of the greatest violinists of all time. Born in Vilnius, he was soon recognized as a child prodigy and was trained in the Russian classical violin style in St. Petersburg. Accompanying his parents to escape the violence of the Russian Revolution, he moved to the United States as a teenager, where his Carnegie Hall debut was rapturously received. Fritz Kreisler, another leading violinist of the twentieth century, said after hearing Heifetz's debut, "We might as well take our fiddles and break them across our knees."
Josef Gingold was a Russian and American classical violinist and teacher who lived most of his life in the United States. At the time of his death he was considered one of the most influential violin masters in the United States, with many successful students.

Louis Kaufman was an American violinist. He played on the soundtrack of as many as 500 movies and made over 100 musical recordings. He is also credited with reviving the music of Antonio Vivaldi with his recording of The Four Seasons in 1947, which won the Grand Prix du Disque in 1950, was elected to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002, and in 2003 was selected for the Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry.
Glenn Dicterow is an American violinist and former concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He is on the faculty of the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music where he holds the Jascha Heifetz Chair in violin as well as serving as a faculty artist at the Music Academy of the West.

Frank Xin Huang is a Chinese-born American violinist and teacher. Since 2015 he has been the concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. Previous to his position in New York, Huang was the first violinist of the Ying Quartet and a professor of violin and chamber music at the Eastman School of Music, then served as the concertmaster of the Houston Symphony from 2010 to 2015. He has won several international music competitions, most notably the 2003 Naumburg Competition. Huang has concertized widely as a soloist, and his debut recording on Naxos was critically acclaimed.

Andor John Toth was an American classical violinist, conductor and educator with a musical career spanning over six decades. Toth played his violin on the World War II battlefields of Aachen, Germany; performed with the NBC Symphony Orchestra under Arturo Toscanini in 1943 at age 18; and formed several chamber music ensembles, including the Oberlin String Quartet, the New Hungarian Quartet, and the Stanford String Quartet. For 15 years he was the violinist in the Alma Trio. Toth conducted orchestras in Cleveland, Denver and Houston. In 1969, he was the founding concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra under Neville Marriner. Toth taught at five important colleges and universities, and recorded for Vox, Decca Records and Eclectra Records.
