English National League (1981–82)

The English National League was an ice hockey league in England that existed only for the 1981-82 season. It was the first national league contested in England since the old English National League was held in 1954. It was made up of teams from the Northern League, the English League North, and the English League South. Eight teams participated in the league, and the Streatham Redskins won the championship. [1]

Peter Withe

Peter Withe is an English former football striker who played between 1971 and 1990. At Nottingham Forest he won the Anglo-Scottish Cup and Second Division promotion in 1976–77, First Division and the Football League Cup in 1977–78, and the 1978 FA Charity Shield. With Aston Villa he won the league in 1980–81 leading to scoring the only goal in the 1982 European Cup Final and winning the 1982 European Super Cup. He played for England 11 times scoring once and was a squad member at the 1982 FIFA World Cup.

Alan Kennedy

Alan Kennedy is an English former professional footballer who played the majority of his career as a left back for Newcastle United and then Liverpool. He was a stalwart member of the latter team that won many honours from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. In all Kennedy was active as a professional in England, Denmark, Belgium and Wales, making over 500 appearances in a career that lasted for 22 years. He also represented England at senior international level.

Allan Simonsen Danish footballer and manager

Allan Rodenkam Simonsen is a Danish former footballer and manager. He most prominently played as a forward for German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach, winning the 1975 and 1979 UEFA Cups, as well as for Barcelona from Spain, winning the 1982 Cup Winners' Cup. Simonsen is the only footballer to have scored in the European Cup, UEFA Cup, and Cup Winners' Cup finals. Simonsen was named 1977 European Footballer of the Year.

The British Hockey League was the top-flight ice hockey league in the United Kingdom from 1980 until 1996, when it was replaced by the Ice Hockey Superleague and the British National League. The league replaced three regional leagues: the Inter-City League in southern England, the English League North in northern England and the Northern League in Scotland.

The Northern League was the top-flight ice hockey league in Scotland and initially northern England, from 1966. In 1982 it merged with the Inter-City League and the English League North to form the British Hockey League.

Graham Roberts

Graham Paul Roberts is an English retired footballer and manager who played as a defender for numerous clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Rangers, Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion. He was also capped six times by England. He subsequently served as the head coach of the Pakistan national team and Nepal national team.

The 1981 English cricket season was the 82nd in which the County Championship had been an official competition. A change of sponsorship ended the Gillette Cup and the knockout competition became the NatWest Trophy, which lasted for twenty years. Australia toured England to compete for the Ashes and England won the series 3-1. Nottinghamshire won a close struggle for the County Championship title, defeating Sussex by two points.

Kenneth Swain is an English former footballer who played in numerous positions, including striker, midfielder and full back.

Blackpool Seagulls

Blackpool Seagulls are an English ice hockey team, founded in 1951, who played at the Pleasure Beach Ice Rink, Blackpool. They folded in 1993.

Jane Webster married name Jane Sutton is a retired English female badminton player noted for her strong and consistent shot-making. Though competitive at a world-class level in singles, her greatest success came in doubles.

George Fairbairn is a Scottish former rugby union and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s, and coached rugby league in the 1980s and 1990s. He played representative level rugby union (RU) for Borders, and at club level for Kelso RFC, and representative level rugby league (RL) for Great Britain and England, and at club level for Wigan, winning the Man of Steel Award in 1980, and Hull Kingston Rovers, as a goal-kicking fullback, and coached at representative level rugby league for Scotland, and at club level Wigan, Hull Kingston Rovers, and Huddersfield.

Steve O'Neill is an English former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, and coached in the 1990s and 2000s. He played at representative level for England, and at club level for Wigan, Widnes, Salford, Swinton and the Gateshead Thunder, as a prop or second-row, i.e. number 8 or 10, or, 11 or 12, and coached at representative level for Ireland.

The 1981–82 Football League Cup was the 22nd season of the Football League Cup, a knockout competition for England's top 92 football clubs. The competition started on 31 August 1981 and ended with the final on 13 March 1982.

The 1981–82 Just Juice National Basketball League season was the tenth season of the National Basketball League formed in 1972.

The Liverpool Leopards were an English ice hockey club, from Liverpool, England. They were formed in 1948 and played their home games at the Palace Ice Rink, Liverpool. The team competed in several leagues during their existence. The club folded at the end of the 1981/82 season.
